Circus looks worth a maximum bet in Queen Anne

Horse Racing Betting

The Queen Anne Stakes is Royal Ascot’s traditional curtain-raiser but not in this most unusual of years with the Buckingham Palace Handicap added to the programme.

Queen Anne Stakes History

The Queen Anne Stakes is run over the straight mile.
It’s a Group 1 race for four-year-olds and upwards first run in 1840 under the name of the Trial Stakes.
In 1930, it was renamed in honour of the founder of Ascot racecourse who lived in nearby Windsor Castle. It achieved Group 1 status in 2003 and it’s list of previous winners reads like a who’s who of Europe’s top milers.

Queen Anne Stakes Predictions

There is good to soft in the going description on the first day of Royal Ascot but that only applies to the Round Course and the Queen Anne Stakes is run over the Straight Mile.
That is not great news for the lies of Terebellum (9/2 with Bet365), who has done all of her racing so far over 1m2f on softer going, and Fox Chairman (a general 8/1).
The latter’s two victories last year also came on ground with some give and he is another who may be better over an extra quarter-mile.
Mustashry is a seven-year-old so falls outside the age range which has dominated this contest but he did win the Lockinge Stakes last year at Newbury on good going and is unlikely to be arriving at Ascot without adequate preparation so is worth a second look at the general 12/1.
Dukes Of Hazzard should give a good account at 10/1 with Betvictor for the new training partnership of Paul and Oliver Cole but it is difficult to get away from favourite CIRCUS MAXIMUS.
Winner of the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, the four-year-old won a second Group 1 at Longchamp in September and, in between, was only beaten half-a-length in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.
The Ballydoyle colt is a best 5/2 and should put punters in a happy frame of mind for the challenges ahead.
