Queen Mother Champion Chase 2017 Preview & Betting Odds – 15th March 2017

Cheltenham Festival

There is just the one question on everyone’s lips when looking forward to the Queen Mother Champion Chase on Wednesday at the Cheltenham Festival. That question is “can anyone stop Douvan?”. It is a simple question but with Douvan having claimed a Festival title in each of his last two visits to Prestbury Park, he is likely to be the Champion Chaser on Wednesday. This is a special horse and it is going to take something special, something that perhaps none of the challengers in the field quite have enough to produce, to beat Douvan.

His hurdling debut actually saw Douvan come home second, but since then over two-mile chasing, no-one has been able to touch him. His progress at Cheltenham has been imposing, having won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle before progressing to the Arkle and he is likely to land his third Festival title on his return. He is on a 13 race winning streak at the moment and remarkably, of all his races in the last two seasons anywhere, no horse finishing second has not been within seven lengths of him. It’s remarkable stuff and little surprise that he is red-hot favourite in the Queen Mother Champion Chase betting 2017 at Bet365.

Sprinter Sacre stunned Un De Sceaux in last season’s renewal after having put in a stunning flourish at the end. Fox Norton looks to be pretty much the best of the rest in this one and he is a big price of 7/1 to do so. The Colin Tizzard trainer challenger was a hard worker last season, but all of his efforts managed to return him just the one victory. But he did take a win at Cheltenham in April and he repeated at the course in October as well. He has been out on the sidelines with a minor injury but with three successive wins at Prestbury Park, he at least should be in contention for a top three finish.

Ar Mad looks a decent potential candidate to create something special on the day to break into the top three. He was a stylish winner in a Sandown Novices’ Chase last December but you are looking at a big price on him because of an injury and just the one run this season which was a fourth place in the Tingle Creek. Capable of a solid run, but more of one for the future for Gary Moore as a direct replacement for the fading star that is Sire de Grugy.

Our big each way shot for the Queen Mother Champion Chase betting 2017 is God’s Own. This is a horse which beat Vautour twice last season and put in a strong run at the Tingle Creek this season. He usually carries some decent season form and was fourth last season in the Champion Chase and has a strong preference for two and a half miles. The only way to look at this race now with Douvan such a strong odds-on favourite, is took look in the Without Douvan market at Bet365 where Fox Norton is a good 9/4 price in God’s Own at 3/1.

Queen Mother Champion Chase 2017 Predictions

No-one is likely to even get close to Douvan in this one and that will be little surprise. He is in a class of his own. God’s Own has to be the value shot in the Without Douvan market here, especially after his win over Victor and Simonsig to win the Punchestown Champion Chase. That was a big statement and it suggests that they can follow Douvan home on Wednesday with Fox Norton looking just a little overrated.
