Race Favourite

Heading this small field in the market is BOCCACCIO at 11/8* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020). This is an unexposed youngster who has secured wins in both of his racetrack appearances so far.

Both of those wins were at the 7f distance, and the latter was under penalty at Kempton and he still impressed massively. But this will be his first crack at things on the turf. However, he is looking like a really big threat in this race for trainer Charlie Appleby.

He’s a very well bred colt and the sky looks the limit for him at the moment. He has a big chance of landing the hat trick.

Tips

Perhaps the biggest challenger to Boccaccio is going to be RAITEA. He stepped back into action with a success at Kempton recently which can’t be dismissed. This is handicap action for him for the first time and he looks like he can push on after that recent maiden success.

That run was easily the best of what Raatea has produced so far and it means that he does bring claims here. At the top of the weights is MANIGORDO who also scored on his last run. He may have more to unleash under handicapping terms after a decent showing as a juvenile. His recent win was at Sandown over a 7f trip.

Aside from AYR HARBOUR who secured a couple of handicap wins on the all-weather at the 7f trip in the winter, we don’t see anyone else getting in the frame. His last run was just over two weeks ago at Newcastle where he was runner up. He makes his turf debut in this run out.

Race Favourite

We have LIMATO as the current 11/4 favourite for this contest* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020). This is the Group 3 Criterion Stakes so it’s one of the big ones on the card for the day.

He will be coming back from a 260 day break for this one. He is a smart horse who was a bit up and won with form in the winter.

But the claims in this one come from a win that the 8 year old took at Newmarket in June last year in a Group 2 contest.

He has been consistently tried out at higher levels as well, so is no mug. If Limato brings his best to the day, then the 11-time winner on turf could get in the picture. He won this fixture 12 months ago.

Tips

HAPPY POWER claimed third place at Haydock on his reappearance. That very solid effort puts him in the frame to challenge here. He is used to the big company as well having taken on the Sussex Stake and the Celebration Mile at Goodwood before.

He produced good efforts in both on the back of securing a win in Listed company. So he definitely is worth keeping on side in this one. It has been awhile since he has scored, like a lot of this field really, but Happy Power looks a threat.

The other that we would look towards is ON THE WARPATH. He was last seen at Meydan in February on a reappearance and took a fourth place finish in a testing handicap there. He showed some great form last season on The Warpath which is why we like the look of him.

He won a couple of times last year and one of those was at a 6f trip at a Newmarket handicap, so he could enjoy himself back on the same territory, albeit on a longer trip. There is potential there from him in this kind of company.

Race Favourite

So this is the big Listed race of the day and it’s a small field. If the betting market is running true to form then it may just be a two horse race.

We have current joint favourites at 11/8 of THUNDERCLOUDS and VOLKAN STAR to look at* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

Let’s start with THUNDEROUS Who cracked off three wins from three as a juvenile Hard to mess with that and the last time that he scored that was at a 7f trip at Newbury in Listed company as well.

There is a good pedigree in play here and the extra trip should be in his wheelhouse. This is a really smart young man with big claims.

Also being respected well in the market is VOLKAN STAR then who secured a second place finish three weeks ago on a reappearance.

Will that extra time on the track give him an advantage when he takes on Thunderous? That’s the big question here.

On a course and a distance trip last year Volkan Star did take a second place finish in Listed company. With that recent effort under his belt as well, he is going to tick a lot of boxes for punters in this one. He should be sharp and get close.

Tips

While we don’t see beyond the front two, we will take a look at the other making up the numbers in this one.

MAN OF THE NIGHT had a reappearance recently and claimed a third place. That was an effort in a Newbury Handicap at this distance.

That work was just a couple of weeks ago and he could potentially put something together to upset one of the others already mentioned to scrap into the top-two. He did put in some decent work as a juvenile but it’s four winless efforts since winning on his debut.

DO YOU LOVE ME will be making just his second racetrack appearance. She made her racecourse debut on a 1m 4f trip at Newmarket earlier this month. So she is totally exposed but it was a decent third that she took. This is probably going to be way too much too soon for her, however.

The outsider for this one is GODDESS OF FIRE who is making a massive jump up in class here. She started her juvenile career well, winning her first two racetrack appearances. She secured a third on a reappearance in October but she just looks as if she will be out of her depth at this level.

Newmarket 15:50 Race Odds & Tips

Nugget 11/8
Al Maysan 5/2
Fruition 7/2
Glenties 9/2

Race Favourite

We get to look at an even smaller field in this one and it could all be about NUGGET who is the current 11/8 favourite* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

He scored on his last effort, which was a reappearance run and a handicap debut at the same dime. That effort came at Doncaster and there is probably a lot more to come from him even though he goes up on trip again.

Connections are clearly seeing a lot in him as he is pushed on further and he looks likely enough to get close here. Nugget appears to have shovels full of stamina and with a very strong pedigree behind him in that record, he could strike.

Tips

AL MAYSAN came firing out of the blocks winning his first two racetrack appearances. He gets cheek pieces on him for the first time in this one.

His last two runs have seen him come up a little bit short in his efforts, both at Newmarket.

But Al Maysan has the course and distance experience under his belt if nothing else and if the recent results can be excused, he’s the biggest threat to Nugget.

GLENTIES is still looking to break his maiden. There has been consistent form from him, but not enough of a spark to see him take things to the next level.

He was a beaten favourite on his last effort in a field of just three at Goodwood, but he did get hampered a little.

That was on a step up to this 1m 2f distance as well and doesn’t look to have enough to get the better of either Nugget or Al Maysan on the day.

Bringing up the rear is FRUITION who is the lowest rated horse in the field by a distance. But he did get better in his efforts on his three runs as a juvenile.

He took on a handicap debut at Doncaster on his reappearance taking third there, and Fruition looked all sorts of rusty in that one.

Race Type: Class 3 Fillies’ Handicap

Race Favourite

We will round off Saturday’s Newmarket preview with a look at Race 8, a Fillies’ Handicap. It’s another small field and it is DELTA’S ROYALTY currently heading the betting for it at 6/4* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

She scored on her debut and then she took on course and distance here on her recent appearance and took second. She ran very well in that effort earlier this month and she is a really fair mark here. Big claims.

Tips

WALKONBY is the one with the most racetrack experience in this field. She scored a win on her last effort as well (the third of her career) and so she is in good form.

That recent win was at Haydock earlier this very month. So with Ryan Moore returning to the saddle, there is a good chance that she will go very well.

Walkonby looks value in a field of four at 2/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 20:59 GMT on Tuesday, 7th April 2020).

ESCALADE signed off for a winter break with a win under her belt to break her maiden at the third attempt. She really improved to get that Southwell score.

For this one she is jumping up in both trips and is taking on her handicap debut as well. Not without reasonable claims you would assume under the handicap.

The winless KEPALA brings up the betting back for this one. She had a recent run at Goodwood and had to settle for fourth place in that novice contest.

Maybe she will be more at home now under handicapping and after having gotten the rust out with that recent win.
