Reading vs Derby County Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 21st December 15.00pm

Reading and Derby County do battle at the Madejski Stadium in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Royals have won just one of their last six, while County have lost each of their previous five on the road, failing to win away from home since the opening weekend of the season. This is a tough one to call, but who will come out on top in Berkshire?

Reading News and Form – Royals to return to winning ways at the Madejski?

Mark Bowen initially made a positive impact at the Madejski Stadium when joining in October, guiding the Royals to ten points from his first four games in charge. Since then, though, Reading have won just one of six, losing half of those.

The Berkshire club go into Saturday’s clash having drawn their last two in the Championship. After battling to a 1-1 draw with lowly Barnsley at Oakwell, Reading held Stoke City to a goalless draw at the bet365 Stadium last Saturday.

Reading have been poor on home turf this season, losing six of ten. In fact, only Stoke have lost more home games up until now. After winning three in a row at the Madejski Stadium under Bowen, they have now lost two on the spin on their own patch.

After one win in six, Reading could really do with all three points at the weekend. With Derby County being woeful on the road lately, the Royals have an excellent chance.

  • The Rams have taken two points from the last 15 on offer

Derby County News and Form – Can the Rams avoid a sixth straight away reverse?

Despite losing 1-0 to Millwall at Pride Park last time out, Derby have been very strong at home this term. Only six sides have claimed more home points thus far, with 20 of their 26 points coming on home soil.

However, Derby have been shocking on the road in recent months, losing each of their previous five. County have failed to win on the road in the league since winning 2-1 at Huddersfield Town on the opening weekend, drawing three and losing six of the following nine.

With the pressure starting to mount on Phillip Cocu, the Dutchman’s days at Pride Park could be numbered if Derby crash to a sixth consecutive away defeat this weekend.

Reading vs Derby County Predictions

Reading win: Bowen got off to a flying start at the Madejski Stadium. Although their form has slumped in recent weeks, the Royals do look a better team under their new manager. Having gone three games without a win and drawing the last two, Reading will be targeting all three points from this one.

Cocu has struggled to get Derby going this season. Apart from winning five home matches on the spin from late September to late November, the Rams supporters have not had an awful lot to shout about this season.

Reading and Derby are separated by just three points, with County just ahead. This could be close, but I’m putting my money on a narrow home win. The Royals are priced at 21/20. Derby have failed to score in their last five on the road, so put some money on Reading to win to nil at 5/2.
