Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 6th December 7.45pm

It is a really strange situation for Real Madrid that they find themselves in. They have nothing at stake, nothing riding on this match day six affair with Dortmund and that is because they are locked into second place. They can’t catch leaders Tottenham after losing in London to the Lilywhites on match day five and so this is a dead rubber for them. Dortmund, however, have to turn up and strive for points that could see them take the Europa League spot.

Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips

So the reigning European Champions will only finish second in Group H of this season’s UEFA Champions League as they go into match day six. They are three points behind group leaders Spurs but are unable to catch them because of Spurs having the superior head to head record over them. Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have met up six times in Spain before and from those run of games, Real Madrid holds a W4 D2 record. Both clubs were together in the group stage of last season’s Champions League and both games between them ended in a 2-2 draw and it was Dortmund who went on to win the group. So for the second season running Real Madrid will finish their section in second place. In this season’s groups tags at home, Real Madrid have drawn with Spurs and have beaten APOEL. They are in great form on home soil in Europe as they have posted a W32 D5 L1 record in their last 38 fixtures at the Bernabeu.

Their lone loss in that sequence was against a German side, Schalke in the 2014/15 round of sixteen. They have suffered only the one loss in their last sixteen home games against sides from Germany (W12 D3). Madrid’s overall home record against Bundesliga clubs is W24 D5 L3. Cristiano Ronaldo has struggled in front of goal in La Liga this season but he has scored in each of Real Madrid’s five Champions League games this season (no player has ever managed to score in all six) and he is the 9/4 William Hill first goalscorer favourite. Not since a loss against AC Milan in 2009 have Los Merengues suffered a home defeat in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Their record in the group stage at the Bernabeu since then reads and impressive W21 D3 and two of those ties were against Dortmund. The Spaniards have lost only the two of their last 24 European games home and away (W16 D6 L2).

Dortmund have to at least equal whatever it is that APOEL manages to get on the board against Tottenham on the night in order to finish in third place and get through to the UEFA Europa League. After their high of last season’s Champions League campaign where they beat Real Madrid to top spot in the group, this has been a hugely disappointing return from the Germans this time around. They have taken a 1-1 draw at APOEL and a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham on their travels in the group so far. That has left them with only the one win in their last ten European fixtures now in a W1 D3 L6 record. They don’t have a great track record running in Spain either because they have taken just the one win in their last 13 previous visits there (D5 L7). Their one any victory in Spain there came against Atletico Madrid in the 1996/97 group stage. They are on a three match losing streak on the road in Europe. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a 13/8 William Hill anytime goalscorer option. BVB are struggling on all fronts this season, and their current form reads W1 D5 L5 in their last seven games across all competitions.

Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund Predictions

Real Madrid really have no need to go full strength at this one, because at this point, pride doesn’t even matter. This is a dead rubber for them while Dortmund have to play to get third place secured. It could just end up as a draw.
