Real Madrid News and Form – Will Real Madrid ease past Brugge?

There was a setback for Real Madrid on matchday one. A big one at that. They lost 3-0 at PSG. That leaves Los Blancos with three defeats in their last four Champions League fixtures and they need to regroup a bit. They have also shockingly lost back to back games at the Bernabeu in Europe as well. They have conceded at least three goals in each of their last three Champions League losses too. Along with this opener against PSG, they had lost 3-0 at home to CSKA Moscow in last season’s group stage and then had their heavy loss against Ajax in the round of sixteen which eliminated them.

Real Madrid took a W4 L2 record in their group stage campaign last season, the two defeats happening in their games against CSKA Moscow. It has been only the eight loss in their last 42 European games though, winning 27 of them. It has been only four reverses from their last 46 Champions League games at the Bernabeu. Interestingly though it is worth noting that three of those defeats have been in their last six home games. Real Madrid have won their last four on home soil against Belgian visitors, racking up 20 goals.

Club Brugge News and Form

Although they are not going to be fancied to get out of the group, or even cause an upset here, Club Burrge are unbeaten in their last five group stage games in the Champions League. It is a total of nine unbeaten games in Europe if you count their qualification fixtures. In their opening game of this campaign, they took a point in a 0-0 draw against Galatasaray, which was a missed opportunity for them in their easiest home fixture. The Belgians have not shipped a goal in any of their last four games in the group stage of the competition.

Last season in the Champions League group stage, Club Brugge finished third behind Dortmund and Atletico. It was an early exit then in the Europa League round of 32 against RB Salzburg.
