This is only going to be the fourth meeting ever between Real Madrid and Girona. Real Madrid actually lost the first ever meeting, early in the 2017/18 league season. But they have won the last two meetings. In the one previous match between the two sides at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid took a 6-3 win.
In the last round of this season’s competition, Real Madrid won 3-1 on aggregate over Leganes, having opened up a 3-0 lead in the first leg at home. Los Merengues took a good 2-0 home win in the league over Sevilla on the weekend leaving them at W3 D1 L2 in their last six games in all competitions. Real Madrid have won four of their last five away games (D1 L1).
So Girona have a tough tie here, especially being away in the first leg. They aren’t taking any kind of form into the tie with them at all. They have failed to win any of their last eight games in all competitions. However, there was a notable result in there. In the last round of the Copa del Rey, they took out Atletico Madrid.
After a 1-1 home draw, Girona went to the Metropolitano and played out a 3-3 draw to get through on away goals. They have drawn five of their last six games played. Girona have also scored at least two goals in each of their last three games away from home. They have, however, conceded at least two goals in each of their last four road games.
