Real Madrid v PSG Predictions & Betting Odds – 14th February 2018

Reigning champions to hold out at home against PSG threat

Real Madrid

Real Madrid v PSG Betting Preview – UEFA Champions League 14th February 7.45pm

Two of the giants in Europe go head to head in the round of sixteen. Real Madrid found themselves with a tongue tie after failing to win their group over English Premier League side Tottenham. They have to do battle with PSG who have been backed into a position of second favourites to win the tournament outright, despite this battle with the reigning champions. Real Madrid have been out of sorts this season and their entire term now rests on their Champions League progress.

Real Madrid News and Form

Real Madrid failed to win their group for the second season running in the Champions League, beaten out by Spurs this term. Last season they still managed to run all the way to win the Cup, but they are looking a bit out of sorts this season to pull off a repeat of that. Los Merengues have been to the final four of the Championship League in each of the last seven seasons so of course, they have a tremendous track record. Their record in the last sixteen is W8 L6 and at this stage of the competition last term, they produced 3-1 wins in both of their games against Napoli. Real Madrid have won 33 of their last 39 European home games and during that sequence have lost just once (to Schalke in the 2014/15 round of sixteen).

In the group stage this season, the Spaniards took seven points from their their home games, beating APOEL and Borussia Dortmund while drawing with Spurs. Cristiano Ronaldo created history by scoring in each of their six group stage games. Both teams to score at bet365 is at 4/9 odds while over 2.5 goals is at 1/2* (Betting Odds taken on February 8th, 2018 at 10:10 p.m.). Real Madrid have lost only two of their last 25 European games, winning seventeen of those. Their home record against French sides is W10 D3 L1 and they have a W3 L4 record in two-legged ties against French opponents too, losing their last two. Madrid have kept five successive clean sheets against French sides, scoring ten goals (W4 D1).

PSG News and Form

PSG are one of the front-runners at Bet365 along with Man City to get their hands on the Champions League title this year. They have made it to the round of sixteen for the sixth straight season now, but at this stage last season they were stopped in that epic duel with Barcelona. After winning 4-0 at home, PSG went to the Nou Camp in the second leg and were downed 6-1 in remarkable fashion. PSG hold a W4 D2 L7 record in Spain, losing their last four visits three (three against Barcelona and one at Real Madrid). But they do have a bit of current away form in Europe going for them as they have won seven of their last twelve European away games and they posted big away wins over Celtic and Anderlecht in the group stage before losing at Bayern 3-1. That loss at Bayern prevented PSG from making it six wins from six in the group stage. PSG hold a W5 L3 record in two-legged ties against Spanish opposition, but they have lost each of their last three against them (all against Barcelona). PSG may be worth backing to at least draw this as they have not lost the first leg of a round of sixteen tie in the Champions League before, holding a W4 D1 record from their previous five. With firepower through Neymar and Edinson Cavani, they will give the reigning champions plenty to think about.

Real Madrid v PSG Head to Head

From the six previous matches that these two have contested, the head to had is even with two wins each and two drawn matches. PSG and Madrid were together most recently in the 2015/16 group stage where there was 0-0 draw in Paris before Real Madrid won 1-0 back at home. Before that it was Paris who were on top, beating Real Madrid in the 1992/93 UEFA Cup quarter-finals and in the 1993/94 European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-finals.

Real Madrid v PSG Predictions

This is probably going to be a tight contest out at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid have to perform in this one because after a poor season this is their last shot at silverware. They haven’t been at their best this season at all but can stay strong enough ton home soil to collect a draw. PSG would be happy with that with the second leg to come back in Paris.
