Real Salt Lake v New York City Betting Tips – MLS, 3rd August 03.00am

Mike Petke’s Real Salt Lake entertain Domenec Torrent’s New York City at the Rio Tinto Stadium in an MLS fixture this weekend. This is Petke’s second game of a three-match dugout suspension. The hosts are currently in eighth place in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the visitors are sitting pretty in fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. New York thumped Real Salt Lake when they last went head-to-head, but will the Claret and Cobalt get revenge in this one?

Real Salt Lake News and Form – Can Petke’s men continue their decent form?

Since falling to back-to-back defeats to Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls a couple of months back, Real Salt Lake have lost just one of their following seven. That sole defeat came against San Jose Earthquakes (1-0) back in early July.

Real have won three of their last six, seeing off Kansas City Chiefs (2-0), Columbus Crew (1-0) and Philadelphia Union (4-0). However, the club have drawn their last two, at home to Minnesota United and at FC Dallas. In Dallas last weekend, they battled to a goalless stalemate without Petke, who was recently suspended for bad behaviour in a cup game.

The Claret and Cobalt have had a mixed season in the Western Conference thus far. The Utah side have picked up nine wins, drawn four times and lost nine games. Along the way, they have scored 30 and conceded 30.

Real Salt Lake, who have picked up of late, will want to extend their three-game unbeaten run this weekend, but beating in-form New York City could be tough.

Key-Facts – Real Salt Lake v New York City

  • Real Salt Lake have won five and drawn one of their last six at home
  • New York City have won four of their previous seven on the road
  • The Blues have suffered just two away league defeats this season

New York City News and Form – Six wins from eight for the Blues?

New York City head to Utah in excellent form. The Boys in Blue have won five of their last seven and have lost just two MLS fixtures since March. However, both of those defeats have come over the past month, losing 1-0 to Portland Timbers and 2-1 to rivals New York Red Bulls.

Still, since those back-to-back losses, Torrent’s troops have won two in a row. After winning 2-1 at Colorado Rapids, New York eased to a 3-1 victory over Kansas City at the Yankee Stadium, with Anton Tinnerholm, Heber and Alexander Ring getting on the scoresheet.

The Pigeons are currently in fourth position in the Eastern Conference, just four points off the top. No side in this season’s MLS have lost fewer games than New York (three) so far. However, the club have only picked nine wins (eight draws).

New York City have been very good travellers this season, losing only twice and winning four of their last their seven on the road. Can Torrent’s side claim a fifth away league win of the season at the weekend?

Real Salt Lake v New York City Predictions

New York City win: Real Salt Lake have been incredibly strong on their own patch of late, claiming a superb 16 points from the last 18 available at the Rio Tinto Stadium. However, New York City are excellent travellers, with only Los Angeles (21) and Portland (20) taking more away points than the Blues (16) in MLS this season. I fancy the visitors to nick the points in Utah. This could be close on the scoreline, though, so have a punt on New York to win 1-0 (11/1).
