Real Salt Lake News and Form – Another home win for Real?

Real Salt Lake have had a decent MLS season up until now. At the time of writing, the Claret and Cobalt have won 13, drawn four and lost 11. Overall, Salt Lake have picked up a respectable 43 points, and they are just three points behind second place Seattle Sounders.

Real have been in patchy form of late, though, losing two of their last three league games. However, they have won four of their past six in MLS. After battling to a 2-0 win over Colorado Rapids, Salt Lake were beaten 1-0 at Portland Timbers in their last outing.

 

 

Real Salt Lake have two home regular season matches left after welcoming San Jose to Rio Tinto Stadium in midweek. The Utah franchise have been very hard to beat on their own patch this term, winning ten, drawing one and losing three of their 14 home MLS fixtures up until now. In fact, runaway leaders Los Angeles FC are the only team to have beaten them on home turf since Portland Timbers won 2-1 at Rio Tinto back in May.

San Jose Earthquakes News and Form – Can the Quakes end a run of three successive away defeats?

San Jose Earthquakes have picked up just one more point than Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference so far. The Quakes, who finished 23rd overall last season, have secured 13 wins, drawn four times and lost ten of their 28 MLS fixtures. Along the way, they have scored 48 and shipped 43. Meanwhile, San Jose are only two points adrift of second spot.

Since picking up just one point from a possible 12 and losing three games in a row to Colorado, Kansas City (both 2-1) and Los Angeles (4-0), San Jose have won back-to-back games. The Quakes beat Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 before seeing off Orlando City by a 3-0 scoreline.

San Jose were far too good for Orlando at the Avaya Stadium last weekend, with Magnus Eriksson opening the scoring in the third minute. Chris Wondolowski added two more before half time to add gloss to the scoreline.

San Jose Earthquakes have struggled on the road of late, losing each of their last three and four of their previous six. Still, can they pick up a priceless three points on their travels ahead of this weekend’s trip to New York City?

Real Salt Lake win: The hosts, who are still under the interim management of Freddy Suarez, have been incredible at home of late. Only three teams have beaten Real at Rio Tinto Stadium in MLS this season, and they have won three of their last four on their own patch. This will no doubt be a close one, but my money is going on the home win at 8/5.
