Rising star Mori to hold off challengers

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

This should be a pretty good contest here and there has been a battle at the head of the market between Alluringly and Mori. This is a great race for Thursday at Ascot and it features the best-staying fillies that are out there. You will see some familiar names from The Oaks turning up in this one and that is because that is the major Group 1 race for them. At this year’s Epsom clash, while Enable and Rhododendron were head and shoulders above the rest of the field, there was a very good run put in by Alluringly.

She stayed very well for third in that race and while she also suffered a loss to Enable at the Cheshire Oaks there is no reason why she can’t be in contention at Ascot on Thursday at all. Mori ran a decent race at Goodwood recently and the daughter of Frankel, who is trained by Sir Michael Stoute hasn’t been far from the head of the Ribblesdale betting market and during the week she took over from Alluringly. She may well handle the extra distance very well.

Mori has a rich breeding history behind her of course and she really raised her stock at Ascot last month and was again impressive in the Height of Fashion Stakes. While John Gosden looks to have the main threats to her taking this, this is a horse which has come on very quickly and is a star in the making. Coming from Frankel and mare Midday, you would expect nothing less.

Mori 9/4, Alluringly 3/1, Coronet 7/1, Naughty Or Nice 15/2, Astronomy’s Choice 10/1, Hertford Dancer 11/1, Gracious Diana 14/1, Coconut Creme 16/1, Serenada 18/1

This Group 2 race is over a mile and four furlongs. Coronet came home fifth at the Epsom Oaks but it was a little hard to see what she was really capable of from that because she got blocked in at the back and never found herself in the position of getting settled to make a challenge. She did at least come on strongly at the end though. She will likely adopt the same strategy for her but perhaps now that Frankie Dettori, who has won this race more times than any other jockey, has abandoned the ride that will leave punters a little hesitant about her chances of getting up there for the win.

But she is a good runner with a decent finish and because the field doesn’t look much deeper than those three, then she is worth backing to place. Then again, Fillies who run in the Epsom Oaks have never really gone too well in the Ribblesdale Stakes the same season. John Oxx’s Irish Raider Naughty Or Nice may have some each way claims for punters after a win in her maiden at Gowran Park and may well get a look in for a place.

As Alluringly and Coronet were both at the Oaks, we are going to skip them and put stock in Frankel progeny Mori coming through for the win. This really is a star in the making and the rising credentials can be confirmed in this one.
