It will be Ronnie O’Sullivan lining up in the final of the Masters 2019 on Sunday against Judd Trump. While O’Sullivan is the most successful player in the history of the tournament, Trump in contrast, is making his first appearance in the final.

Ronnie O’Sulivan saw off Ding Junhui in his semi final match. While it was once again steady progress from O’Sullivan, the highlight of the match was a near 147 effort from his opponent. Ding missed the final green on his quest for the maximum break.

Still, it was nowhere near enough from Ding to get close to O’Sullivan. The Rocket will be going up against Judd Trump in the Final who had a tough scrap against Australia’s Neil Robertson in his semi final match. It was a great match between the two left-handers, both playing some attacking stuff.

Rematch

O’Sullivan and Trump met in the final at the Northern Ireland Open this season and it was Trump who came out on top. O’Sullivan had been the favourite, but in a good final, it was Trump who prevailed 5-3.

Head to head

The head to head is close between them. O’Sullivan just edges it 12-11. That matchup at the Northern Ireland Open was their most recent meeting. In their last four meetings, there have been two semi-final and two final showdowns. So it’s high profile meetings they have had. O’Sullivan has won three of those last four meetings. They have had one Masters meeting before. Trump took a 6-2 win in the quarter finals of the 2012 edition.

Prediction

O’Sullivan has won seven Masters titles, but has lost five other finals. Trump has come through some big challenges at this season’s tournament and so is not likely to get overwhelmed. He is one of the few players who has a tight head to head with O’Sullivan. We expect The Rocket to prevail as the 4/9 favourite, but this is probably going to be tight.
