There have already been a few mismatches in the Scottish Premiership this season and pundits are predicting we will have another as the champions arrive at the Global Energy Stadium – but can the home team upset the odds?

Ross County Form and Team News

It’s now no wins in eight for Ross County – not the ideal preparation for the visit of Celtic.
The Staggies are seeking a measure of revenge having been thumped 6-0 by the Hoops at Celtic Park. That was their heaviest defeat of the season to date and all of their hard work at the start of the campaign appears to be unravelling. The Dingwall side have been conceding an average of three goals a game over their last six matches and now officially have the worst defence in the Premiership so it’s no surprise that they’ve slipped into the bottom half of the table.
However, the pressure is almost entirely off County in this match. Celtic and Rangers have swept aside just about everything put in front of them this season so this is not a game that will determine County’s season. Even an honourable defeat could boost confidence with a point a bonus. Co-managers Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson are likely to encourage their team to try and take the game to Celtic, who played in Europe on Thursday, but they have suffered heavy home defeats against both Aberdeen and Rangers in recent weeks so it would be optimistic to believe they’ll avoid a similar fate against the team that is currently top of the table.
Ross County don’t have the resources of their opponents so will have to rely on their current squad to find a way out of the hole into which they have dug themselves. That is again likely to see prominent roles for Billy McKay and captain Marcus Fraser, though winger Michael Gardyne could return after missing last week’s defeat at St Mirren and his team have managed to find the net if four of their last five outings.

Celtic Form and Team News

Odsonne Edouard missed Thursday’s Europa League victory over Rennes and Celtic’s top scorer is again likely to be absent for this Sunday’s trip to Victoria Park aka the Global Energy Stadium.
The Frenchman is nursing a knock and may not be risked in the Highlands with a busy schedule ahead. However, the Hoops managed perfectly well without a recognised striker on Thursday and this match offers another opportunity for former St Mirren forward Lewis Morgan and youngster Micahel Johnston to show their value as squad members.
The Hoops have won nine matches in a row and have only lost one game all season in the Premiership, though that defeat at Livingston did come after they’d played in the Europa League on the previous Thursday.
Neil Lennon will again likely make changes against Ross County but Scott Brown and Callum McGregor will almost certainly anchor the midfield again and the pace of James Forrest and Ryan Christie has been troubling better defences that County’s. The champions’ own defence is improving the more it plays together and the return of Fraser Forster has helped them keep clean sheets in four of their last seven outings.

Ross County vs Celtic Head-to-Head

Ross County have not beaten Celtic in nine attempts since early in 2016. The Hoops have won their last four meetings without conceding a goal and have averaged more than three goals a game in their last seven matches against the Staggies, conceding just twice.

Ross County vs Celtic Predictions

Form, history and probably even the tea leaves of a fortune-teller point to an easy victory for Celtic in this and probably by a comfortable margin. Celtic -2 in the Handicap Betting with Paddy Power are 13/10 and that appears excellent value. All of Ross County’s last six matches have featured at least three goals and a 1-3 Correct Score is a general 10/1.
