A bold run expected from Snow Leopardess

Heading up the market is SNOW LEOPARDESS for this run at 4/1* (betting odds recorded at 20:30 GMT at William Hill on December 24th 2020).

This will be the fourth run of the season for her and she has gotten better and better.

She picked up a win at Haydock on her latest run as the 9/2 joint-favourite. That was on a 3m 2f trip at Haydock last month.

It was a win that she took by half a length over Commodore.

So that sets her up for another bold run.

Snow Leopardess is really starting to come good in this sphere and there should be further improvement to come as well. Earlier this season she took a course and distance second to Shan Blue.

CANELO
5/1

William Hill

Canelo is another on the up in chasing

Another of the big players in this field is likely to be CANELO who is the current 5/1 second favourite* (betting odds recorded at 20:30 GMT at William Hill on December 24th 2020).

He will also be going in his fourth run of this campaign.

On his penultimate run, he claimed a win at Aintree in November confirming his improvement in the world of chasing.

There was better to come from him in his next races as he took second place behind Cap Du Nord at Newbury last month.

That was in a strong field and therefore we expect Canolo to get very close when he goes on Boxing Day.

Springtown Lake could benefit from a low mark

There is actually a fair mark on SPRINGTOWN LAKE, a 7/1 contender in this field* (betting odds recorded at 20:30 GMT at William Hill on December 24th 2020).

He opened the season with a second-place finish in a chase at Aintree.

That latest run was at 2m 5f and he collected a fifth-place finish there from a field of 18.

Springtown Lake gets the check pieces on for the first time. The way that he had shaped at Aintree suggests that the 8-year-old is carrying some good form.

Wandrin Star to shine brightly at Wetherby?

On his reappearance run this season, WANDRIN STAR looked as good as ever in taking a runner up place ascot.

That was in a 3m chase last month when he was only edged out by a nose by QUARENTA. It was a fantastic run for Wandrin Star, his first since wind surgery.

So we think that the Kim Bailey trained runner does have some further potential in him, enough to warrant some good respect in this Wetherby run.

That strong 3-mile trip could be a key factor for him and he is an excellent 15/2 option for Rowland Meyrick Handicap chase odds* (betting odds recorded at 20:30 GMT at William Hill on December 24th 2020).

Does Spiritofthegames have enough to score?

An interesting player in this field for David Skelton is SPIRITOFTHEGAMES.

Last month he was in the Group 3 Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. That was a 2m 4f trip at Grade 3. He put in a really bold run to get a second-place there.

He is now moved up to the three-mile trip for the first time under rules.

Going back to David Skelton, he did this race back in 2017 with Get On The Yager.

Spiritofthegames is experienced enough to handle himself well as he battles through his fair share of competitive handicaps. Place claims could be there from 11/2* (betting odds recorded at 20:30 GMT at William Hill on December 24th 2020).

Rest of the runners

WINDSOR AVENUE was coming on leaps and bounds last season as a chaser. On his return, he found only Imperial Aura too good for him. Troubling though he really struggled on his follow up race.

THE DUTCHMAN is a good chaser and the 10-year old showed plenty in collecting a second-place finish at Haydock on his second run of this campaign. He gets the tongue strap and cheekpieces back on.

BEAUTY BAY gets a 7lb rise to deal with after delivering a win at the Grand Sefton at Aintree three weeks ago. That’s a big chunk of extra weight to deal with as he comes back to the regular fences. He’s a useful chaser and has enough to get himself in the frame.

GUITAR PETE has a good track record at Wetherby. The 10-year-old does have a good heart at the moment and he took a fourth-place finish under rules on his reappearance fixture. This is a tough, competitive field through.

Predictions & Tips for Rowland Meyrick handicap Chase Odds

We are going to roll with Alan King’s CANELO for the win in this one as he’s rapidly developing into an excellent chaser.

His second-place finish at Newbury in a very strong field is enough to get him our backing as a 5/1 shot in this Boxing Day run* (betting odds recorded at 20:30 GMT at William Hill on December 24th 2020).

Of course, there is enough in the favourite SNOW LEOPARDESS to expect a bold run that puts her right in the frame. She’s getting better and better in this sphere and should go very close.

The final selection for the shortlist in Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase betting is WANDRIN STAR. He went so close in a tough Ascot contest on his reappearance. There’s a 4lb rise, which may just see him miss out, but we think he gets close.
