Wolferton Stakes History
The Wolferton Stakes was first staged in 2002 when Royal Ascot was extended to five days to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
It was named after the village of Wolferton, which is near The Queen’s Sandringham residence in Norfolk, and was initially named the Wolferton Rated Stakes. It was run as a handicap up until 2018 .
Nowadays’ it’s a Listed race run over 1m2f for four-year-olds and upwards.

Wolferton Stakes Predictions
John Gosden trained the winner of the Wolferton Stakes three times when it was a handicap and when it was first run as a conditions stakes in 2018.
However, his two runners this year both carry penalties. Dubai Warrior (12/1 with Coral) has 5lb extra having won the Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield in February. Crossed Baton (a general 10/1) has 3lb extra having won a Listed race, also on Polytrack, in November.
Mountain Hunter(a general 16/1) also has a 3lb penalty as he landed a Listed race at Newmarket in September.
Fox Tal (3/1 with Bet365) was making progress in the autumn and was an excellent fourth in the Champion Stakes at Ascot on his final start when Regal Reality( a best 9/2) was down the field. That is smart form to bring into a Listed race but it would be no surprise to see SIR DRAGONET rediscover his best form.
Aidan O’Brien’s four-year-old looked set for big things after winning the Chester Vase last year and went on to finish fifth in the Epsom Derby and fourth in the St Leger. He is a 7/2 chance with Coral and should go well if can put a disappointing reappearance at Naas behind him.
Mountain Angel was fifth in the race last year and any further rain would help Roger Varian’s tough performer, who is a general 16/1.
