Chesham Stakes History
Named after the 3rd Baron Chesham, the Chesham Stakes was first run in 1919.
Originally run over 5f, the two-year-old now compete over 7f and attracts future middle-distance performers as it is restricted to horses who have been sired by stallions who won races over 1m2f or further.

Chesham Stakes Predictions
Bright Devil is certainly bred to stay and will relish every millimetre of rain that has fallen on Ascot in recent days – Andrew Balding’s Newmarket winner is a best 9/2.
Modern News also made a winning start over 6f at Newmarket but only by a neck and this is a much tougher assignment for the Godolphin colt. He is the general 3/1 market leader at present, however.
Golden Flame has already run over 7f at Haydock. He was only beaten half-a-length and holds Clarendon Cross on that effort so can’t be ignored at a general 11/2 given his stable’s two-year-olds have started off in great form.
Concessions only won a three-runner race at Chelmsford but beat an odds-on chance from the Johnston stable with Seattle Rock last and the 9/1 with Betway could be a decent each-way bet.
BATTLEGROUND (4/1 with Bet365) is out of Arc winner Found, who was particularly effective on ground with some give.
He was only fifth on his racecourse debut at Naas when one of five Aidan O’Brien runners but there was a huge amount of promise in his run considering he missed the break.
An easier surface and an extra furlong are going to be right up his street and he will know a lot more on his second start – the smaller field will also help.
