Royal Ascot 16:10 Racing Odds and Tips June 18 – Ambassador looks Great at 25/1 with Betvictor

Ambassador looks very able in Britannia Handicap

Horse Racing Betting

The Britannia Handicap is limited to three-year-olds and the Classic generation’s version of the Royal Hunt Cup, which was run yesterday.
There are field restrictions in place at Royal Ascot this year but three reserves are standing by in case of the 24 declared runners defaults so there should be a maximum field taking part.
Those starting in stalls located on the far side away from the stands have been at a slight disadvantage on the Straight Course so far this week – will that trend continue?

Britannia Handicap History

First run in 1928, the Britannia Handicap is a Class 2 contest run over the Straight Mile. It is only open to colts and geldings with the fillies having their own version – the Sandringham Handicap.
The form is usually worth following with 11 of the 28 runners last year going on to win races.
Covid-19 charities and cancer charities will benefit from the race this year as the UK’s biggest bookmakers have agreed to donate all of their profits from the Britannia Stakes to charity.

Britannia Handicap Predictions

This is always one of the most difficult race at Royal Ascot to decipher.
Many of the leading stables have multiple entries and several of those near the head of the betting are transferring from the all-weather.
There are three recent winners – Johan, Dubai Mirage and Finest Sound – but all have to carry a penalty.Johan (10/1 with Betvictor) was impressive at Newbury last Saturday, however, and has to go on what is likely to be a very long shortlist.
John Gosden has trained the winner on a few occasions and saddles four this year.
Ryan Moore has ridden the winner in two of the last six year and rides Cherokee Trail (20/1 with Bet365), who fits the bill on several levels, not least the fact that he stays further and this is always a strongly-run race. A low draw is a bit off-putting but he has won at Ascot and could be the pick of his stable’s quartet.
Starcat brings Classic form into the race as he ran in the 2000 Guineas.
Trainer Hughie Morrison has also trained the winner of the race in the past and his colt is 9/1 with Coral.
Ziggle Pops (22/1 with Ladbrokes) beat several of these at Lingfield but third Grove Ferry could reverse the placings and is more interesting 20/1 with Ladbrokes.
GREAT AMBASSADOR‘s second to Pyledriver at Salisbury last summer looks much better now than at did at the time and he is a fascinating runner rated only 88.
He won a minor contest at Chelmsford in the autumn and the step up to a mile will suit. With an apparently good draw, the 25/1 with Betvictor is definitely worth a second look.
