Royal Ascot 2019 – Top 5 Tips

Top 5 Tips for Royal Ascot 2019

Horse Racing Betting

Royal Ascot is one of the most prestigious flat meets of horse racing anywhere in the world. With five tremendous days of racing to come, what better way than to celebrate with our top five tips for Royal Ascot 2019?* (betting odds taken from June 14th, 2019 at 11:17 pm)

Betting Tip 1:

Queen Anne Stakes – Laurens 7/1 Each Way

Tuesday, June 18th: The opening race of the Festival we have to dial in on. There was a big winner twelve months ago with 33/1 shot Accidental Agent taking the win. A lot of the recent winners have been at short odds. But did that buck the trend? We are liking the look of Laurens this year. She came home second to Mustashry at Newbury in the middle of May, beating out Accidental Agent.

That was her renewal for the year though, so wasn’t at peak fitness. She should be ready for this and has a great chance of mixing things up with the boys again. She does have five Group 1 wins behind her as well in her career, and as a four-year-old she is the right age.

Each of the last seventeen renewals of the Queen Anne Stake have been won by either a four or five-year-old. She has already been cut from 8/1 and she is worth a look currently at 7/1 with William Hill* (betting odds taken from William Hill on June 14th, 2019 at 11:17 pm)

Betting Tip 2: King’s Stand Stakes – Battaash 2/1

Tuesday, June 18th: All of the focus is going to be on favourite Battaash here who is defending at 2/1 favouritism at Bet365 * (betting odds taken from Bet365 on June 14th, 2019 at 11:17 pm). He has something to prove as well here after coming up short in the top races that he went into last season. While he delivered at Group 2 level, he surprisingly couldn’t step it up. He was out at the Windsor Castle Stakes twelve months ago but wasn’t settled in the stalls and finished 12th in his first Ascot outing.

That’s the only time he has been outside of the top four in his career. This is a lightning horse and it going into another big duel with Blue Point. They were at it at Ascot last year in this race with Blue Point taking the win after letting his challenger tag along before taking him out in the finish. Battaash may well have a great shot at redemption.

Betting Tip 3: Prince of Wales Stakes – Crystal Ocean

Wednesday 19th: Franke Dettori is in the saddle for Michael Stoute in the Prince of Wales Stakes. Crystal Ocean is targeting a first Group 1 win this season and there still looks to be a lot to come from him. He will be knocking off a quarter of a mile to his preferred distance but he seems like a horse that wouldn’t notice the difference too much.

He has taken on three Group 1 challenges before and has come home second in each of those. It’s just that little extra bit of a step up now at the highest level. He is currently at 9/2 with Betfair while other bookmakers have trimmed his odds down to 4/1* (betting odds taken from Betfair on June 14th, 2019 at 11:17 pm). He will be taking on some class challengers in Magical and Sea of Class in this fantastic race. But Crystal Ocean looks just about as ready as ever to stand up there in Group 1 company and get the win.

Betting Tip 4: The Gold Cup – Stradivarius 6/4

Thursday, June 20th: This two miles 3 furlongs challenge is some spectacle to behold on Ladies Day. Who has the staying power this year to go all the way? It’s all eyes on one horse in this one and that is Stradivarius. He put on a big show of power twelve months ago when he took down Vazirabad and Torcedor to win this prestigious race. The colt is back for another attempt at the race, trying to become the first one to successfully defend a Gold Cup title in a decade.

Stadivarius has nine wins from his 14 flat races before, never having been outside of the top three. He signed off in 2018 with a win at the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup and then won the Matchbook Yorkshire Cup Stakes back in May this year. It is a six-race winning streak that he is on and is so comfortable over two miles. He has what it takes to defend as the 6/4 favourite with Unibet. * (betting odds taken from Unibet on June 14th, 2019 at 11:17 pm)

Betting Tip 5: Diamond Jubilee Stakes – The Tin Man 12/1

Saturday, June 21st: One of the greatest sprint specialities that there is in racing. It a blistering race down the famous Ascot straight, so much so that concessions from around the globe come in. Look back to last year’s run when the top three were all trained outside of the UK, with Merchant Navy taking the win.

Second-placed City Light and third-placed Bound For Nowhere are back for another crack at the sprint. This year’s edition looks to be a wide open and bookmakers are totally split on The Tin Man. He is as short as 7/1 with some bookmakers, but others like Paddy Power have him at 12/1 * (betting odds taken from Paddy Power on June 14th, 2019 at 11:17 pm). That makes him tremendous value at each for a race that’s he’s already won.

The Tin Man won the 2017 edition and has won twice over course and distance. He did get beat at the Hamilton Stakes last month, however, he is likely to be fitter and it’s back at his very best there’s every chance that he could challenge the favourite Invincible Army.
