Royal Baby Name – Is the Money Talking?

Arthur proving popular in Royal baby stakes

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

The Duke of Duchess of Cambridge have a new son and there is only one first name being backed for the fifth in line to the throne.

ARTHUR is the new 2/1 favourite in the name game for William and Kate’s newborn and, for once, most bookmakers are in accord. Has a Kensington Palace insider accidentally tipped the wink? Has the palace’s silver been pawned to make a quick buck from betting firms? Now we know the sex of the new baby, naming options have effectively been halved, of course, unless the new prince is to be called Lesley, or Jessie, or Ashley.

Space was very limited outside the exclusive Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London yesterday after the birth was announced. Hundreds of photographers jostled with members of the public who wanted to pass on their best wishes (don’t these people have jobs to go to?) but they were rewarded on St George’s Day with a brief glimpse of the royal couple’s third baby, who weighed in at an impressive 8lb 7oz, and also a wave from older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Like George, the new baby will inherit the title His Royal Highness and become a Prince Of Cambridge.

It’s very interesting that all the bookmakers who have a market on the royal baby’s name are almost in unison. James, for example, is a general 4/1 and Albert is 5/1 across the boards. Coral are a bit more generous than some going 6/1 about Philip. There might be pressure from great-grandmother for the latter. Betfred are on their own in offering Alexander at 14/1 and the general consensus is that the name will be a traditional one with some connection to the family so I wouldn’t be interested in something like Francis at 40/1, though We’ll likely find it in a few days.
