Russia News and Form – Will Russia earn three points against Scotland?
It has been five wins in six group stage games by Russia. So they are on the brink of confirming their place at Euro 2020. Their one loss in this campaign happened against group leaders Belgium. Russia have notched up a total of 18 goals in their games so far, but nine of those happened in a drubbing of San Marino on home soil.
Their other two home games, Russia won 1-0 against Cyprus and Kazakhstan. The Russians have claimed a win in each of their last five European Championship home qualifiers. A win and Scotland would close the gap on Russia to six points, but that would still leave them with a tremendous amount of work to do to reach Euro 2020. The positive is that Scotland would only have easier games to play after this one in the campaign. If they suffered a loss in this game then they won’t be able to reach the top two in the group. They do have their play-off spot confirmed from winning their Nations League group though. Scotland have lost their two games against Belgium and the one against Russia in their last three qualification matches.
In total Scotland conceded nine goals in those three games. Back at the start of their campaign, they suffered a 3-0 loss against Kazakhstan which was a massive set back for them. While getting out of the group with Russia and Belgium there was always going to be difficult, had they beaten Kazakhstan, they would have at least been in closer touch with the in-form Russians. Scotland have conceded at least two goals in four of their last six games. There has been just two wins from them in their last eight away European Championship qualifiers.
