Saint-Etienne vs Nice Betting Tips – Ligue 1, 4th December 18.00pm

Claude Puel’s Saint-Etienne entertain Patrick Vieira’s Nice at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Ligue 1 on Wednesday. On paper, these two teams seem very well matched, with only two points separating the pair in the current French top-flight table. However, with Les Verts being on home soil, Saint-Etienne are the bookies’ favourites at 13/10. Can the hosts secure their first win in four in midweek?

Saint-Etienne News and Form – Third home league victory for the Saints?

Claude Puel’s Saint-Etienne have failed to win any of their last three league and cup games. Since beating Nantes on the road, the Greens have taken one point from two league games and have drawn with Gent in the UEFA Europa League.

Last Sunday, the Saints were beaten by Rennes at Roazhon Park. Lios Diony’s early effort put Saint-Etienne a goal up, but Raphael Belloli levelled things up just six minutes later. Puel’s troops were then dealt a sucker punch in injury-time, with Damien Da Silva scoring at the death to give Rennes all three points.

The Saints have really struggled for wins on home turf this season, winning just two of seven Ligue 1 games at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. However, only Metz have left their stadium with maximum points. Can Saint-Etienne pick up their first home victory for over a month in midweek?

Saint-Etienne vs Nice Head to Head

A Robert Beric brace and a Romain Hamouma goal gave Saint-Etienne a 3-0 home victory when the sides last met

Nice have won only one of the last four league meetings between the two clubs

Four of the last six have ended 1-0, with Nice winning three of those

Les Verts have won the last two at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard

Key-Facts – Saint-Etienne vs Nice

  • Saint-Etienne have lost just once at home in Ligue 1 this season
  • Nice have lost each of their last six away games in all competitions
  • The pair are separated by just two points in the Ligue 1 table at present

Nice News and Form – Can Le Gym avoid a seventh straight away defeat?

Nice, who finished seventh last season, find themselves in 12th place in France’s top division at the moment, two points behind Saint-Etienne. Vieira’s side have been in patchy form lately, losing six of their past ten in all competitions.

However, Nice did pick up a vital home victory over Angers in their last outing. Despite falling behind after 22 minutes, goals from Arnaud Lusamba, Myziane Maolida and Kasper Dolberg were enough to give the Eaglets a 3-1 victory at the Allianz Riviera.

Le Gym have already lost five times away from home, failing to win on the road since September 1st. In fact, since winning their opening two away Ligue 1 games, Nice have lost six away league and cup fixtures in a row. Can Vieira’s side shrug off their poor form and pick up a crucial victory on their travels in midweek?

Saint-Etienne vs Nice Tips & Odds

Saint-Etienne to win and both teams to score at 4/1
Denis Bouanga to score anytime at 7/4

Saint-Etienne vs Nice Predictions

Saint-Etienne win: Since starting the season with back-to-back away wins at Nimes and Rennes, Nice have been dreadful away from home. Vieira’s troops have taken zero points from a possible 15 from their last five away league games, and they were beaten at Le Mans in the French League Cup back in October.

Saint-Etienne, who have certainly improved under Puel, have been no great shakes at home this season, but they are very hard to beat on their own pitch. I’m backing Puel’s side to pick up a much-needed three points in this one. Check out the tasty odds of 4/1 for the hosts to win and both teams to score.

Denis Bouanga has scored five times this season, with four of those goals coming in his last nine appearances. The 25-year-old is priced at 7/4 to notch anytime on Wednesday.
