Salzburg News and Form – Can Salzburg topple Napoli?
Revenge may be on the mind of Salzburg in this one. In last season’s Europa League, their campaign was ended by Napoli in the round of sixteen. Salzburg won the home leg of the tie 3-1 though. This is the Austrian team’s first Champions League group stage campaign since the 94/95 season. They kicked it off in style with a 6-2 win over Genk. They then fired off another three goals in their second match, away at Liverpool.
They did, however, lose 4-3 at Anfield, but they really took Liverpool on and impressed in the fixture, did Salzburg. The Austrian Champions, based on those first two performances, are likely to cause Napoli some problems. This is only their second group stage appearance so are a bit green, but will be looking to improve on their third-place finish from that 94/95 campaign.
