San Marino v Scotland Preview

San Marino opened their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with a 5-0 reverse out in Cyprus in midweek. Twice before San Marino have hosted Scotland and the hosts lost both of those games 0-2. The last time these two were together was in World Cup 2010 qualification. San Marino have suffered a defeat in all four of their previous international fixtures against Scotland, failing to score in any of those. San Marino have lost all seven games played since the start of September and in that sequence of matches, they have failed to produce a single goal. It is a 28 match losing streak that San Marino are currently on in competitive and friendly matches combined.

Key-Facts – San Marino v Scotland

  • San Marino have lost each of their last 28 international fixtures
  • San Marino have lost all four previous games against Scotland
  • Scotland’s two visits to San Marino have produced 2-0 wins for them

Scotland then had a disaster in their opening Euro 2020 qualification fixture. They found themselves 2-0 down within 10 minutes out in Kazakhstan and had no response in them whatsoever. Scotland ended up losing the match 3-0 which is a major setback in their automatic qualification hopes for Euro 2020. Prior to that Scotland had won their two previous matches beating Albania 4-0 and then Israel 3-2.

So it was some major collapse by them and it was their second defeat in their last three away fixtures. Back in the Nations League, they lost 2-1 in Israel because of a dreadful performance which took huge criticism. But the defeat in Kazakhstan was even worse than that. It means that Scotland have lost four of their last five away games, failing to score in three of those fixtures. This may, however, be the perfect game for them in which to come up with a response to what happened to them in Kazakhstan.

San Marino v Scotland Predictions

Scotland to win: Minnows San Marino will likely be extra charged up this after seeing how poor Scotland were. But they are still a long way short of quality and the visitors should get the win on the board. Another Scotland 2-0 correct score for them at 6/1 odds on a trip to San Marino doesn’t look unreasonable at all* (Betting Odds were taken from bet365 on March 22nd, 2019 at 8:34 p.m.)
