Sandown Cotswold Chase Racing Odds & Tips: Coral offer 9/4 on Bristol De Mai – 6th February 2021

Santini and Bristol De Mai go head to head again in the Cotswold Chase

Horse Racing Betting

The Cotswold Chase gets its delayed outing this weekend after its scheduling at its regular home of Cheltenham was interrupted.

This is a top fixture of Saturday’s racing action and there are some stellar names in the lineup for the prize.

It’s a classy field of six that are taking to the start, including last year’s winner SANTINI who is expected to be back in among the mix well.

Cotswold Chase Racing Odds

Bristol De Mai 9/4
Santini 11/4
Native River 4/1

Bristol De Mai the 9/4 FAV in Cotswold Chase betting

After January’s abandoned day of racing at Cheltenham, the Cotswold Chase gets the go ahead from Sandwon on Saturday.

BRISTOL DE MAI is the current 9/4 market leader for this really hot contest* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

He hit top form in November on his latest run when he claimed the Betfair Chase for the third time in four years.

So that was a huge positive start to the season from him.

Bristol De Mai went close in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham last season, as he found only SANTINI too good for him on the day.

In a battle of stamina on heavy ground, you would expect Bristol De Mai to be right in there as this is a great surface for him.

Can he build on that superb performance at Haydock a couple of months ago?

Can Santini defend his Cotswold Chase crown?

The exciting SANTINI is at 11/4 and just takes preference for us* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

He was pushed hard by Bristol De Mai in last year’s edition of this match when he received a couple of pounds from his rival.

There is going to be a lot of cut in the ground on Saturday.

So a test of stamina is coming and that is where Santini is likely to excel.

He opened the season with a runners up spot and then disappointed a little in the King George VI Chase at Kempton at the 3m trip in December.

Santini hasn’t been seen to the best effect this season.

But in this smaller field against some familiar company, we expect him to be right there. He’s going to have to work hard for it again.

Can Native River make it count on the day

It is a little hard to read the form of NATIVE RIVER at the moment. The 2018 Gold Cup winner picked up a couple of Grade 2 wins at the back end of last season.

But on his reappearance he went to Aintree where he was third behind LAKE VIEW LAD.

But that was a race in which he wasn’t really pushed because of limited jumping opportunities, so a stronger contest should play into his hands.

It was a run that he has managed to get under his belt ahead of this one and he should be that much better for it at the end of the day.

Native River comes in as a 4/1 shot for Cotswold Chase betting* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

Can Saint Calvados make the most of receiving weight

The 5/1 quote on SAINT CALVADOS is interesting* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

On his reappearance run this season he shaped very well in the King George last month, but he was pulling hard and struggled to stick the 3m trip.

But he dug in for a fourth place finish there and there signs of big improvement from Saint Calvados last season.

He went close in the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival giving Min a big run for his money in that one.

So the potential is there.

Saint Calvados does receive weight from the other big players in this field and that could give him a good chance in this.

A settled run and he could be in the frame.

Can Yala Enki find enough?

YALA ENKI looks a really bold sort and he really was eye-catching in claiming a third place finish at the Welsh Hurdle last year.

That put him on the radar and then followed that up with a win at Taunton a couple of weeks ago.

That’s eight wins over the jumps by Yala Enki now with that Taunton effort being a chase.

That was a longer 3m 4f trip that he took on at Taunton, but delivered the odds and lokos a really exciting prospect still for trainer Paul Nicholls.

Yala Enki is a quote of 7/1 to find enough to overcome this field* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

Lake View Lad to spring a surprise?

LAKE VIEW LAD claimed a win in the Many Clouds at Aintree on his latest run, which was a couple of months ago.

He had both Santini and Native River behind him in that fixture, which should say a lot about his chances going into the Cotswold Chase.

But that was such a strange race that came totally unravelled.

That’s due to the jumping not being the main focus of the fixture as only 9 of the 19 jumps were in play on the day.

So that’s hard to translate anything over from the confusing contest that it was.

But Lake View Lad took his chance, but there should be a lot more needed from him in a proper chase contest of this quality.

Predictions & Tips for Cotswold Chase Racing Odds

What a great line up in this field. First let’s start with SANTINI who is looking to double up in the fixture.

At 11/4 there is some appeal in backing him* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

He hasn’t had suitable runs this season yet where he could really bring out the best.

But that’s not to say that he couldn’t do it here again in this race as he will be pushed hard and can respond.

We think it’s a gruelling slog of a stamina test given the conditions, so it’s Santini or BRISTOL DE MAI for us.

The latter was in terrific form at Haydock to get the Betfair Chase under his belt again. He’s a proven performer with a Grade 1 success at Sandown before.

But we think that course and distance winner SANTINI may just have the edge.

The rest of the field is just fascinating as they are all capable of putting in a run worthy of getting into the places.

For us it is going to be SAINT CALVADOS who makes the shortlist at 5/1* (betting odds recorded at 17:44 GMT on 5th February 2021 with Coral).

We are expecting him to take a big jump forward here after going well in the King George in December.

If he can stay calm he should have a much better shot at handling this 3m trip.
