Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri raced to the head of the Next Premier League Manager To Go market on Sunday. Sarri struggling to motivate Blues
It was men against boys type of stuff on the day as Manchester City were just on a different plane to Chelsea. The Citizens moved back to the top of the table with the three points, topping out Liverpool on goal difference. Liverpool do have a game in hand over the Citizens at the moment though.
So is Sarri, who has been calling out players for not performing and telling the press that his players are hard to motivate, treading a thin line now at the Bridge? Everything started so well with Chelsea winning their opening five games of the EPL season and going unbeaten through to nearly the end of November.
But it has fallen apart badly recently with the Blues now having lost three of their last four league games (W1).
They have enough tough game coming up as well as they face Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in their next league fixture. This is one of those situations where time may be the answers. Chelsea rotate managers in and out for fun and they really went out of their way to get the Italian.
Chelsea can look to the longevity of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and Pep Guardiola at Man City and see that big projects need time to build. But Chelsea don’t appear to be that patient of a club.
Silva Sweating on Merseyside
Everton boss Marco Silva is another man starting to feel the heat. The Toffees were so persistent in getting him, but things aren’t going well at Goodison Park at all. Everton have not won a single match against a side in the top half of the table this season.
A 1-0 loss at Watford on the weekend saw them go three losses in a row and the Toffees have now lost six of their last eight top-flight fixtures. After a game down at relegation-threatened Cardiff, Everton then make the trip to Anfield to face rivals, Liverpool. Could defeats in those be the final straw for Silva?
