Manchester City News and Form

Manchester City lost their opening group stage fixture against Lyon in a shock upset. But the Citizens had more than enough about them to still go and win the section. This is the sixth consecutive season that the English side have been through to the round of sixteen. They have prevailed in just two of their five previous visits. Last season they collected an away win at Basel in the round of sixteen, just their second win in five away matches at this stage. They have lost three of their five previous away matches in the round of 16.

Manchester city were up against German opposition in the group stage as they faced Hoffenheim. City came up a really spirited opponent in those games, but the English side still edged both games 2-1. Manchester City have posted a W6 D1 record in their last seven games against German opposition. They have failed in their two previous two-legged ties against German sides though in European action. The Citizens have won just five of their last 11 European matches, home and away. That won’t stop them being heavy favourites here.

Schalke v Manchester City Predictions

Man City to win: You would have to roll with the Citizens opening up an advantage in this tie in the first leg. Given their record it’s worth backing both teams to score in the fixture, but still for the English champions to come out on top.
