Scotland Women - Argentina Women

Scotland Women v Argentina Women Betting Tips – Women’s World Cup, 19th June 8.00pm

The pressure will be on both of these. The most likely scenario out of all of this will be that the winner of this fixture will take one of the best third-placed finisher spots. So they both have to go for this. There hasn’t been a lot of offensive output from Argentina so far at the tournament, so will they be able to cut loose? Scotland have performed well in patches in having to chase things in both of their two games so far. Read our predictions for Scotland Women v Argentina Women.

Scotland Women News and Form

It has been a familiar story for the Scottish in both of their World Cup group stage games so far. They fell behind 2-0 in both before pulling a goal back in each. So that’s back to back 2-1 defeats for Shelley Kerr’s team, but they have a chance of getting to the next round still. They have to get three points from this final group stage game to have a chance of that though. One feature of Scotland’s approach has seen them only cut loose and attack convincingly when they have been behind in games. They need to be a bit more positive from the get-go in this one. The two defeats at the World Cup leaves Scotland with a W2 D1 L2 record from their last five games played. During that sequence, they have picked up just one clean sheet.

The Scots have conceded exactly two goals in each of their last three games played. But as a positive look at things they are on a seven-match scoring streak. Basically, when you look at this fixture, they can’t be too worried about the attacking threat of Argentina, because that’s been non-existent so far. Scotland’s star players Kim Little and Erin Cuthbert need to link up much better because they can run the show. The only way then that Scotland move ahead is with a win. Given the situation, there is a slim chance that they are going to need a big goal difference boost with a win as well. They have to be brave.

Key-Facts – Scotland Women v Argentina Women

  • The Scots have conceded exactly two goals in each of their last three games
  • The winner will likely take one of the best third-place finisher spots
  • The Argentineans have scored in just two of eight previous World Cup games

Argentina Women News and Form

If Argentina were to bow out of the competition at the group stage, they can at least go home with their heads held high. They have done so well in such a difficult group against Japan and England. Japan were runners up four years ago, England were third. Everyone was expecting Argentina to get torn apart. From their six previous World Cup games prior to this campaign, they had lost all of those games with an average of 5.5 goals against them per game. But they have been defensively so well organised this time around. They limited Japan to a 0-0 draw and only came up short in a narrow 1-0 defeat against England.

Argentina’s keeper, Vanina Correa was outstanding against England. Like Scotland, Argentina have a chance at making the knockout stages. That would be something for them. They already have a point from their draw against Japan (which saw them take their first ever World Cup clean sheet) and so will get one of the best third-place finishers spots with a win. Against the stronger opposition of Japan and England, there has been zero attacking ambition or threat from Argentina. Is it in there? Are they suddenly going to cut loose? Maybe that was their game plan, to keep as tight as possible against the big two in the group and then attack Scotland. Argentina are W1 D1 L4 in their last six games played and they have scored in just one of those games. They have scored in just two of their eight previous World Cup games (two goals total).

Scotland Women v Argentina Women Predictions

Scotland to win: Argentina haven’t shown any attacking output at all, so it’s hard to tell if they have that side of them. The Scots have, albeit in short patches, shown an attacking threat in the tournament. They should have enough to find a way through to the next round.
