Sevilla v Barcelona Betting Preview – Copa del Rey 21st April 8.30pm

There is silverware up for grabs on the weekend in Spain as Sevilla and Barcelona go head to head in the final of the Copa del Rey. This is a repeat of the 2015/16 Final which Barcelona won 2-0 after extra time. The Catalans will be looking for their fourth straight title in the competition and they are odds-on favourites to collect the victory. Can Sevilla pull something special out of their hat and cause an upset?

Sevilla v Barcelona Betting Tips

Sevilla are not likely to land that top-five finish in La Liga that they were coveting as their form has been dropping away. Still, a bit of cup cheer could be had on the weekend if they can pull off an upset. They have caused an upset in the Copa del Rey this season already as they got the better of Atletico Madrid 5-2 on aggregate in the quarter finals. Then they eased their way past the challenge of Leganes in the final four to get back to the final. This is exactly the same boat as two seasons ago that they find themselves in. They have to face Barcelona in the final at the home of Atletico Madrid. Sevilla lost that final two years ago, 2-0 after extra time. Sevilla have won the Copa del Rey five times before, most recently in 2010 and have finished runners-up on three other occasions. Since mid-March, just after knocking Manchester United out of the Champions League, their form has been slipping backwards.

They do carry a good attacking threat when they get up a head of steam, but they don’t look partially stable at the back. Both teams to score at bet365 is at 7/10 odds* (betting odds taken on April 17th, 2018 at 4:25 p.m.). That has happened in this season’s previous two meetings and in three of the last four clashes. Sevilla have a long unbeaten streak of form going against Barcelona and are natural underdogs. Joaquin Correa has five Copa del Rey goals for them this season, making him the second-top goalscorer in the competition so far this season. Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who was just back from a hamstring injury, looked jaded in their Champions League semi-final tussle with Roma. They will be hoping that he is fresh and ready to go. Luis Suarez continues to tick along in good form for the reigning champions who have won the Copa del Rey a record 29 times, with ten runners-up places on top.

In the semi finals, Barcelona produced two solid games to hold off the stern challenge of Valencia and that was after a tight squeeze against neighbours Espanyol in the quarter finals, Barcelona lost the first leg 1-0 away before turning the tie around at the Nou Camp to edge through 2-1 on aggregate. Barcelona are on the threshold of a domestic double as they have this and the league title in their sights. Really aside from that shocking poor game they produced against Roma in the second leg of their Champions League tie, Barcelona have been pretty formidable this season. Players aren’t going to as fresh at this stage of the season as they were earlier on naturally, but before that loss in Rome, Barcelona had scored at least two goals in each of their six previous games, collecting a clean sheet in three of them. Over 2.5 goals for the final is at 8/15 odds* (betting odds taken on April 17th, 2018 at 4:25 p.m.) and five of the last six Copa del Rey Finals have gone above the goal line.

Sevilla v Barcelona Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between the two clubs this season. Barcelona collected a 2-1 win at the Nou Camp against Sevilla earlier this season and they met in the reverse fixture just back at the end of March and a 2-2 draw was played out. Fourteen of the last sixteen meetings between them have gone over 2.5 goals. Their most recent Copa del Rey meeting was in the 2016 final with Barca winning 2-0 after extra time. Barcelona are 6-4 up with two drawn matches in previous cup competitions.

Sevilla v Barcelona Predictions

Barcelona would have to be backed to get their fourth straight Copa del Rey title. They have only domestic success to focus on and that will make them stronger and more dangerous. They have the experience and the quality to get over the finish line and collect the victory against the slumping Sevilla. Back both teams to score.
