Sha Tin 10.15 Racing Odds and Tips April 19 – Will can Power home again

Will can Power to another success

Horse Racing Betting

Most of the races on this Sunday’s Sha Tin card in Hong Kong are named after English counties so UK-based punters may feel a bit of a connection to proceedings.
The feature is the 10.15 Class 2 Cornwall Handicap, run over 6f on Dirt, which will have a maximum 12 runners with two reserves named.

Power has the Will to keep on winning

Will Power has improved with every run and there is a good chance that Dougie Whyte’s gelding is still a step ahead of the handicapper.
Given his level of progress to date, another 8lb rise in the ratings may not be sufficient to halt his hat-trick bid at a general 5/2 with Karis Teetan more than happy to keep the partnership intact. Stall five will not be an excuse.

Return to sprinting not ideal for Shield

Kings Shield was fifth behind stablemate Without Parole in the 2018 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and hammered reserve Buddies on Dirt at Sha Tin last June.
However, his best trip is a mile even though he showed terrific early speed last time so the best 4/1 makes little appeal.

Supreme could be interesting after pipe-opener

Winner Supreme has been hampered by a wide draw so may have to wait for another day.
But he is definitely one for the notebook after a very promising reappearance over 5f at Happy Valley. Sha Tin is his track and he came on leaps and bounds over 6f last year.
With a talented apprentice taking off 3lb, Me Tsui’s four-year-old is one to keep on the right side and is a best 9/1 with Paddy Power today.

Flashcard out to post a reminder

A winner three times for Andrew Balding before switching to Hong Kong, Flashcard predictably needed his run at Sha Tin seven weeks ago.
British fans will know all about rider Neil Callan and better is expected today from the four-year-old, though whether sprinting will be his game in the former colony is open to debate and he can be backed at 50/1 with Paddy Power.

Change of surface may help Gunnison

The form of Gunnison on Turf has been a little inconsistent but he has a decent record on Dirt at Sha Tin, though a best 11/4 seems a little short considering he has to concede weight all round.

Cornwall Handicap Conclusions

There is probably one more victory in WILL POWER before the handicapper reels him in and he is forced to take on better opposition.
King’s Shield will have to force the pace from a starting berth near the rails but doesn’t have the speed over this trip of some of his rivals.
Winner Supreme would have been a massive danger with a better draw and may still play a part but the hat-trick seeking Massive Pocket will also need to overcome a wide draw and it is hard to see Encore Boy picking up the winning thread again in a race of this nature.
Gunnison could enjoy being back on Dirt and Seven Heavens may be the pick of the remainder but is another drawn high.
