The meeting up in Cumbria was the first time that Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday had been paired up since the 2011/12 League One season when the Owls won both meetings. Carlisle got themselves three league points on the weekend in beating the struggling Crewe in League Two action. They were three games without a win prior to that.
