Sheffield Wednesday v Queens Park Rangers Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 31st August 15.00pm

Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers meet in the EFL Championship at Hillsborough this Saturday. Both teams have made decent starts, with Wednesday sitting on nine points, while QPR have taken seven from their opening five matches. Caretaker boss Lee Bullen has guided the Owls to three league wins so far, and Wednesday go into this clash as the 19/20 favourites with the bookies. Can Sheffield Wednesday continue their 100% home league record with another win on home soil this weekend?

Sheffield Wednesday News and Form – Will Bullen’s boys make it nine points out of nine at home?

Sheffield Wednesday have made a very solid start to their season. The Owls have won four and lost two of their opening six league and cup matches, with three of those wins coming in the Championship.

Wednesday got their league campaign up and running with an impressive 3-1 victory at Reading, which they followed up with a 2-0 home win over Barnsley. The Owls then lost to Millwall at The Den before making it nine points from a possible 12 with a 1-0 victory over Luton Town at Hillsborough.

Last weekend in the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday were narrowly beaten by Preston North End at Deepdale. The Owls were 2-0 down before Steven Fletcher pulled one back late on. Meanwhile, a last-gasp Atdhe Nuhui goal gave the Sheffield club a 1-0 EFL Cup win over Rotherham United at the New York Stadium in midweek.

Against the odds, Wednesday have made a solid start to their season. After losing at Preston last Saturday, can the Owls get back to winning ways in the Championship this weekend?

Sheffield Wednesday v Queens Park Rangers Head to Head

Queens Park Rangers beat Sheffield Wednesday home and away last season, scoring five and conceding one

QPR have won each of the last three meetings

The Hoops are unbeaten in the last four fixtures, winning three and drawing one

Wednesday have won only two of their last eight Championship affairs against Rangers

Key-Facts – Sheffield Wednesday v Queens Park Rangers

  • Wednesday have won two out of two at home so far
  • The Owls have lost just two games at Hillsborough in 2019
  • QPR lost their last away game (2-0 at Bristol City)

Queens Park Rangers News and Form – Can Rangers frustrate the Owls?

Queens Park Rangers, who are now managed by former Brentford and Rangers boss Mark Warburton, have won two, lost two and drawn one of their five Championship matches thus far.

It’s been a mixed start for the R’s, who began their season with a solid 2-1 win at Stoke City. Rangers then went three Championship games without a win, drawing 1-1 with Huddersfield Town before falling to back-to-back defeats to Bristol City (2-0) and Swansea City (3-1).

Despite going into last weekend’s game in poor form, QPR secured a much-needed 3-1 win over lowly Wigan Athletic at Loftus Road. Cedric Kipre put the Latics a goal up inside two minutes, but second-half strikes from Nahki Wells, Eberechi Eze and Jordan Hugill turned the game completely on its head. On Tuesday, though, the Hoops were beaten 2-0 at home by EFL League One side Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup.

On their day, Queens Park Rangers are capable of giving anyone a game in the Championship. Rangers are second favourites at 29/10, but Warburton’s men will fancy their chances of returning to London with a positive result in the bag.

Sheffield Wednesday v Queens Park Rangers Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday win: On paper, these two Championship sides look pretty evenly matched. The Owls have looked strong at home so far, winning both of their league games at Hillsborough. Overall, Wednesday have won four of their six fixtures in all competitions. As for QPR, they picked up an impressive win at Stoke on the opening weekend of the season.

This could be a close one, but I’m backing Sheffield Wednesday to come out on top on their own patch. Put some money on the Owls to win by one goal at 11/4. QPR were good at the bet365 Stadium, with Hugill and Eze scoring in a 2-1 win, but the Hoops struggled at Ashton Gate in a 2-0 defeat in their last away outing. I fancy the home team to keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory on Saturday, which is available at 13/2.
