Slavia Prague News and Form – Can Prague beat Dortmund?

There was a very good point picked up by Slavia Prague at Inter in their opening game of the campaign. They were only denied a win at the San Siro in stoppage time as well. That leaves them at D2 L2 in their four previous away games in the Champions League group stage. This then is their second appearance at this stage of the competition. Their previous one was 12 years ago when they had to settle for third place behind Arsenal and Sevilla. Slavia Prague reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League last season where they were beaten by Chelsea.

They entered this season’s Champions League in the play off round, winning both legs against Cluj 1-0. Prior to that they had won only one of their previous 15 Champions League games (including qualifiers). They collected a total of five points in their previous Champions League games and four of those were collected at home. Overall they have suffered just one defeat in their last eight European home games (W4 D3) and took a clean sheet in five of those. Slavia have gone winless in three games against German opposition, not scoring in any of those. They have failed to win eight of their last nine played against Gemran teams (D3 L5).

Borussia Dortmund News and Form

Dortmund played out a draw with Barlceona at home on match day one. That was actually a missed opportunity for them because they were the better of the two sides and they missed a penalty to seal the win. Will that come back to haunt them? Dortmund have only won one of their last six Champions League games (D2 L3). They have not scored in five of their last six Champions League games, including their last three. That lack of scoring in European action is surprising given their form on the domestic front.

It is a W2 L1 record that they took last season on their group stage travels. Their loss happened at Atletico Madrid in a 2-0 revere. That is the only group stage game last term that the Bundesliga side conceded in, so they were very strong at the back. In their last twelve away games in European action, Borussia Dortmund have picked up only a W2 D4 L6 record. They have played out 0-0 draws on their last two visits to the Czeh Republic. This will be their first trip there since 2005. They hold a W2 D1 record in Prague, scoring seven unanswered goals in those fixtures.

Slavia Prague v Borussia Dortmund Predictions

Dortmund to win: Prague’s draw at the San Siro makes this fixture all the more interesting. Can they do the same to Dortmund? It’s likely that the Germans will have more fluency in their attack than Inter, and therefore cause Prague more problems. Away win to nil.
