Slavia Prague News and Form

Slavia Prague have never before been this far in the Europa League. So they have broken new ground and will have to prove themselves against one of the best. In the round of sixteen Prague took a thrilling win over Sevilla. Actually, this season saw them get through the group stage of the Europa League for the first time in their history, finishing runners up. They then beat Genk 4-1 on aggregate in the round of 32.

Then there was their thrilling 4-3 aggregate win over Sevilla in the last round, the Czech side getting the winner in stoppage time of the second leg. This will Prague’s first meeting with Chelsea. Slavia Prague have taken just one win in their nine previous UEFA fixtures against English sides. That was against Leeds in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup. They still lost on aggregate. That is one of three previous two-legged contests against English sides, Slavia Prague losing all of them. They are W3 D3 at home in Europe, keeping a clean sheet in four of their five played in this season’s Europa League proper.

Chelsea News and Form

Chelsea have had a pretty easy time of things in this season’s Europa League. They have won nine of their ten matches played so far in the campaign (D1). They topped their group easily, dropping just the two points. Then it was 5-1 aggregate success over Malmo in the round of 32. It got even easier for them in the round of sixteen as they dispatched Dynamic Kiev 8-0 on aggregate. It’s been that easy for them. Chelsea hold a W3 D3 record against Czech Clubs. They have not conceded in three previous visits to Prague.

So far on the road this season in the Europa League the Blues are W4 D1. This is just their second appearance in the knockout phase of the competition, and their previous appearance ended with them going all the way and lifting the trophy in the 2012/13 season. The Blues are on an 13 match undefeated streak of form in the Europa League now and need to go two more to tie the record held by Atletico Madrid. Since a loss against Rubin Kazan in their 2012/13 quarter-final, Chelsea are W5 D1 on the road in the competition.
