The Saints collected a fantastic three points for themselves with a win at Leicester on the weekend in the top flight. They needed that boost to pull away from the drop zone. That is a three-match unbeaten streak they are on now. In the middle of that little streak was a 2-2 draw at Derby in this tie. The Saints twice took the lead in the game at Pride Park, both of their goals coming from Nathan Redmond. But twice they were pegged back.

The nice thing is that the Saints didn’t blow off the tie by sending out an under-strength team. Southampton have only taken one home win this season, losing their last two there. There has been a trend with each of their last four home games have gone over 2.5 goals. Overall this season Southampton are W1 D5 L4 on home soil. They have just the two clean sheets but have scored themselves in each of their last five there.

Derby collapsed to a 2-0 loss out at league leaders Leeds in a big Championship fixture on Friday, which was surrounded by the Leeds-spying saga. Derby have just gone off the boil a little bit because they have managed to earn only the one victory in their last seven games now in all competitions (D4 L2). At the end of the day, they are going to be concerned about pushing for promotion than going deep in the FA Cup.

Away from home Derby have alternated between a loss and a win in their last seven away games. Next in the sequence would be a win. Derby have scored in nine of their last ten away games, but they have been struggling for clean sheets. They have only one in their last fourteen away from Pride Park. This is their first trip St Marys since a Championship visit in 2012 which they lost 4-0.
