Southampton News and Form

Southampton gave their survival hopes a tremendous lift last weekend as they pulled off a surprise away win at the King Power against Leicester. That has left the Saints with four points collected from their last two league games. Things appear to be getting much better for the Saints. However, the top flight home form of Southampton leaves a lot to be desired. The Saints have posted a W1 D5 L4 record this season on home soil.

Potentially working against them for this fixture is that Southampton faced Championship side Derby in an FA Cup replay on Wednesday night. Southampton have suffered back-to-back home defeats in the Premier League, and they conceded five goals in total in those two games. In total this season they have produced two home clean sheets. 70% of Southampton’s league games in the Premier League this season have all gone over 2.5 goals.

Of the 11 home goals that Southampton have managed put on the board this season, the majority of them, seven in total, have been scored in the first period of home games. Southampton have not managed to collect a clean sheet in any of their last five home games in the top flight and in fact, the Saints have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four home fixtures.

There are only two sides currently who have worse home records in the division than Southampton at the moment and they are Newcastle and Huddersfield, two of the current bottom three. Southampton will kick off on the weekend just one point clear of the drop zone.

Southampton v Everton Head to Head

Everton took a 2-1 league home win over the Saints back in mid-August
Southampton won this corresponding fixture last season through 4-1
Both teams have scored in four of the last ten meetings
The Saints have won their last two at home against the Toffees in the EPL

Key-Facts – Southampton v Everton

  • Southampton have the third worst home record in the season’s Premier league
  • The Saints have conceded a least two goals in each of their last four Premier league home fixtures
  • Everton have won just one of their last six Premier league away fixtures

Everton News and Form

Everton got themselves a much-needed win last weekend as they had to grind but eventually got a 2-0 win over Bournemouth at Goodison Park. The toffees really needed it too as it leaves them with a W2 D2 L4 for record in their last eight Premier League fixtures now. So they have been having their struggles recently. It hasn’t been a tremendous season out on the road for them in the top tier as they have only picked up two away wins all season (D3 L5).

In their away games Everton have put 13 goals on the board but they have conceded 15. It is worth taking into consideration that of the 13 goals that they have scored away from home this season, five of those came in their recent big victory at Burnley. The Toffees have suffered three defeats in their last four away games the exception being that win at Turf Moor against Burnley.

In their last six league games away from Goodison Park Everton have only collected the one victory. Further problems is that they have only managed one away clean sheet all season and 60% of their away fixtures this term have gone over 2.5 goals. Everton have been level of the half-time break in seven of their away games.

Five of those seven half-time draw is were 0-0 scorelines. The Toffees have shipped two-thirds of their away goals in the second period of away fixtures and each of their last three games, home and away combined, have ended under 2.5 goals.

Southampton v Everton Predictions

Draw: Avoiding defeat is a win for Southampton at the moment in what is a tight relegation battle. They may have enough to shut down an Everton side who have lost their way a little bit this season. Draw.
