Southampton News and Form – Can the Saints upset the Red Devils?

Southampton managed to win their first game of the new season last weekend. That was in a 2-0 victory over Brighton in a south coast clash. That was an important upswing for the Saints after having lost their opening two games of the season. They did, however, put in a really good performance the week prior, in a 2-1 home loss against Liverpool. But all things came together well for them at the Amex.

This is no easy game for them. Especially not when they are trying to get some positive momentum secured. The three goals which Southampton have managed this season in the top flight, have come in the second period of games. Of the five goals that they have conceded, four of them have come in the second half as well. So it’s the second period of action that seems to be the place to look for your betting on this one.

Southampton’s goals have all been delivered by different players. In midweek they beat Fulham in the EFL Cup but paid a price with Nathan Redmond picking up an ankle injury. So he’s likely to be out of action for this one. In Southampton’s last six Premier League games, five of them have gone over 2.5 goals. Three points out of this one for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men would be a massive boost.

Manchester United News and Form – Will the Red Devils take down the Saints?

It was such a positive start that Manchester United made this season. They took that thrilling 4-0 home win over Chelsea, but then things have just started to slide. Paul Pogba missed a potential match-winning spot-kick at Wolves in their second game and had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Then United suffered a shock 2-1 home loss against Crystal Palace last weekend. United’s Marcus Rashford missed a spot-kick in that one.

That’s all three league games this season in which United have been awarded a penalty. That knock back against Palace at home was huge for them and it will only serve as firing more heat towards inexperienced boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United have scored in all three league games this season, with Daniel James, Marcus Rasfhord and Anthony Martial all sat on two each. Martial was injured last weekend against Palace and is a doubt.

They are going to dig deep to try and come up with a response to last weekend’s result of course. The Red Devils now surprisingly have failed to win any of their last five Premier League away games. But as a positive for them in these particular fixtures, they are undefeated against Southampton in their last eleven away games in all competitions. In last season’s visit to St Mary’s, Manchester United were 2-0 down inside 20 minutes but fought back to get a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Southampton v Manchester United Predictions

Draw: A share of the spoils looks a decent option in this game, or at least backing Southampton to not lose. They finally got up to speed last weekend with their play and that could serve them well in this one in taking on a weak United midfield. Southampton – Draw Double Chance.
