Southwell 19:45: William Hill offer 6/4 racing odds on Love Your Work – 14th February 2020

Love Your Work can handle the competitive field in stern Southwell test

Horse Racing Betting

The penultimate race of the day from Southwell sees nine runners duking it out for success in what is a class 5 contest. This should be a great handicap over 1m 13y.

It is Love Your Work who has been trading strongly as the favourite for the fixture.

While he has been well-backed there is actually a really competitive field lining up behind him, with bookmakers split over some of them. It could be a cracker of a race.

Southwell 19:45 Race Odds*

Royal Big Night 4/1

Little India 11/2

Love Your Work to deliver as favourite?

Irish challenger Love Your Work is in very good shape at the moment and has taken some fancy for this Southwell handicap. He is a course and distance winner, so he has that going for him to start with.

His last race was at 7f at Southwell in early February, a race in which he delivered the win as favourite. Love Your Work takes on a 5lb penalty as he comes back into action quilty.

He certainly has his strong claims at 13/8* (betting odds taken from William Hill on January 13th, 2020 at 21:20)

Lightning Attack and Oud Metha Bridge go at it again

The form of Lightning Attack is interesting. He claimed a win over Oud Metha Bridge last month at course and distance. That was after an eighth-place finish, which in turn followed a win at Redcar in early October last year.

So he has had some highs and lows. But it is that most recent class 5 success at C&D which pulls him back into the frame here, even though it was only by three-quarters of a length.

So Oud Metha Bridge will renew that rivalry with Lightning Attack. Can he get the better of him in this attempt? It was a closely fought battle that the two had.

Again, not forgetting that it was at course and distance, both went well and both, therefore, have the potential to be in the mix for the spoils here.

Oud Metha Bridge last won in June last year and is at 7/1 to the 11/2 on Lightning Attack* (betting odds taken from William Hill on January 13th, 2020 at 21:20).

Can Little India get her hot step back?

Punters will be a little puzzled by Little India. She secured a wonderful course and distance success on January 7th. That was in a class 4 contest as well and she looked really good.

Then back at the same track just a couple of weeks later, she turned in a shocker to come 5th of 5 in a drop-down in class. Was that just a race too soon for her?

She had gone as the 10/11 odds on favourite for that, but is now at 11/2 for Friday’s contest* (betting odds taken from William Hill on January 13th, 2020 at 21:20)

Can Bond Angel spring a surprise?

Five-year-old Bond Angel strung together a three-race winning streak, which was recently undone with a sixth-place at Wolverhampton in a 1m 1f trip in early February.

The mare has won twice at Southwell this season and that just cannot be ignored and certainly at a hefty 18/1 quote has each way appeal* (betting odds taken from William Hill on January 13th, 2020 at 21:20).

Is she being underestimated for this contest considering that she is a course and distance winner?

Other contenders

Custard The Dragon was last on his last trip which was at Southwell last month. Before that though he had claimed a win at Southwell at 7f 14y in a class 4 contest. It will be questionable as to whether or not he has that extra furlong in him to be competitive.

Elixsoft had back to back second-place finishes in contests and is a former distance winner. But she was third from last in a big field of 14 on her last trip and she looks to have too much to make up in some pretty solid company.

Tranchee goes with a tongue-tie for the first time. He is a previous course and distance winner and that was as recently as early January in class 5. He misfired a bit on his last trip, however, when a fifth of seven at Lingfield.

Royal Big Night is capable of pulling something out of the bag and he goes as the second favourite at 4/1* (betting odds taken from William Hill on January 13th, 2020 at 21:20). His last run was at Chelmsford when he finished in the middle of a pack of eight.

Royal Big Night hasn’t won beyond 7f before though but the youngster has a good spring in his step. He will be taking on the Southwell trip for the first time and makes a debut on the surface.

Predictions & Tips

This really looks like a great race. There is Lightning Attack who took a debut win on Fibresand in January and Oud Metha Bridge who had good runs at course and distance recently.

Tranchee and Custard The Dragon have decent enough claims as well, so too Little India if she gets it right. But it is Bond Angel who has to be taken into consideration as a big each-way option for the race.

We couldn’t pass on that. As for the outright winner among the field, we can’t look past Love Your Work despite the fiercely competitive nature of this handicap. He was at a higher mark when he landed his C&D and looks like a very easy runner.
