Some early action from the Southwell meeting on Monday is this handicap chase. It’s a small field with just the five entered in the contest. The Favourite: Little Light
It’s only a slight edge that Little Light has in the betting market. The mare is an 15/8 option for the win on Monday afternoon* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:35 GMT on Sunday, 15th March 2020). She has been steady and consistent with her form.
On her first chase appearance after wind surgery, she delivered a win at Leicester at the end of December. Then it was third places at Fakenham and Huntington, all around the 2m distance.
So there are very good claims there on the back of respectable performances. Taking on the small field is another advantage.
Twotwothree
There was some good chase form being delivered by Twotwothree last year. He took back to back wins at Bangor and Huntingdon. His last two efforts have not been quite as sharp however with a third-place a Warwick and then a 6th at Doncaster.
So it just looks as if he needs to find a little something more currently. He has been a bit one-paced, but distance wins and this small field should pull him into some contention, but not totally convincing at 2/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:35 GMT on Sunday, 15th March 2020)
Railroad Junkie
Another who has just been struggling for recent form is the Evan Williams-trained Railroad Junkie. The seven-year-old is a distance winner, but it will take a bold punter for interest after falling on his last trip.
That was in a Taunton chase in December. So he is coming back from an sizeable absence and there just hasn’t been enough impact from him for some considerable time now to really being a genuine contender from 10/3* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:35 GMT on Sunday, 15th March 2020).
Chozen
A course and distance win was taken by Chozen back in October 2018. He has taken one victory since then, an April success last year at Ffos Las. His form has significantly taken a dip since then. He has pulled up and taken a 10th place finish in his last two efforts. Chzoen returns to action for the first time since last December.
Truckers Highway
Trucker’s Highway has nine career wins over the fences, from 35 runs. Not the worst of strike rates really. Nearly half of those were secured at Uttoxeter however where he won in October last year. There’s been little threat form him in any showing since and his last run was at his favoured Uttoxeter where he put in a bit of a stinker.
Predictions & Tips
The depth of the small field doesn’t inspire much interest in looking beyond the favourite for this one.
Little Light looks the sharpest of the bunch in this one.
There has been positive consistency from the mare and the win at Leicester was more convincing than the margin by which she delivered it by, which was a head. She looks to be heading in the right direction.
