Five runners go to the start for this half a mile race. This is a class four handicap from Southwell on Monday and it’s an interesting little fixture. Jack The Truth is edging the favouritism for the race ahead of National Anthem.

Jack The Truth

The George Scott-trained Jack The Truth heads to Southwell on Monday on the back of a win. He took a success in a 5f trip earlier this month. That was a three-quarters of a length win over Green Door at Lingfield.

That was his first time out since September last year, so he made a sharp return. He only takes on a 4lb penalty for that success as well which should help him put together another good run.

Jack The Truth is a course and distance winner having gotten the business down in January 2018 and is the 7/4 favourite for Monday* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 23:12 on February 23rd, 2020).

National Anthem

Another course and distance winner is National Anthem. He was second at Newcastle on his last trip, which was over 6f. He was well beaten in the race however but he has been successful at 5f and 6f on fibresand before.

National Anthem has racked up a couple of victories at Southwell this season and therein is where his claims lie. His course and distance success was just back in January, where he wasn’t under a great deal of pressure in the final furlong.

Still, those Southwell success means that he could be a threat as the 15/8 second-favourite* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 23:12 on February 23rd, 2020).

Moonraker
6/1

Zapper Cass

Seven-year-old Zapper Cass has won at Southwell three times this season. He only takes on a 4lb penalty for his most recent success which was on his latest run. Zapper Class beat Robot Boy by almost three lengths as the favourite at course and distance.

In all likelihood, he is going to face stiffer competition in this one. The experience is certainly there for the sprinter who has won 11 races from 5f to 7f. That 5/1 price on him in this kind of company has plenty to get stuck into* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 23:12 on February 23rd, 2020).

Moonraker

Moonraker, the stablemate of Zapper Cass had a run just back on February 18th at course and distance. He didn’t put on much of a show in the race however as he was a fifth of seven behind winner Astro Jakk. That was up at class 2 to be fair. The last time he was at class four he took a course and distance win on December 29th.

Doc Sportello

The only runner in the field who has not claimed a course and distance win is Doc Sportello. He was last out at Newcastle in January over a 5f trip and he took third-place finish there in a field of six. His last win happened at Bath at 5f back in October last year.

Predictions & Tips

Zapper Cass has the form behind him to make a challenge having had three course and distance successes in 2020. That should really put him into the picture for this one.

Jack The Truth has every chance of getting fully into the picture as well. But Moonraker, despite not running in the greatest of form could spring a surprise among good company after dropping back from a class 2 handicap.
