Ostuni

The form has been there for Ostuni to warrant his standing at the head of the market for this race. Bryony Frost will be in the saddle again on Sunday. Ostuni will be looking for more successes after having won on his last outing.

That was a three and a half-length victory at Fontwell over a longer trip than this (2m 6f). The Paul Nicholls-trained runner had plenty left in the tank as well and is going to be tough to resist here at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on March 7th, 2020 at 21:33 GMT).

Irish Odyssey

Trading as second-favourite for the fixture is Irish Odyssey. He did unseat his rider at Huntingdon on his last trip, however. That was a run at Huntingdon back in January.

He has won at 2m 2f before but it was in an NH Flat race and it was over a couple of years ago.

The Huntington trip in January was his handicap debut and so is unexposed, the least so of all runners in this race and he is 4/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on March 7th, 2020 at 21:33 GMT)

Lord Rococo

Lord Rococo does bring the winning form to the table. He landed a Sedgefield success back on Boxing Day at 8/1. That was a hurdle win.

The five-year-old also claimed a win back in June at Hexham at just over the 2m mark. He has not finished outside of the places in any of his last five runs.

Lord Rococo is a very steady performer and has every chance in this at 9/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 on March 7th, 2020 at 21:33 GMT).

Ladronne and I’m Wiser Now

Others with some steady form in this field are Ladrones and I’m Wiser Now. The latter has been in the place finish in each of his last five runs now.

In total, he’s placed five times from nine hurdles starts. The six-year-old has been knocking on the door, but can he get that elusive first success?

Ladrones won his last outing which was at Newcastle as the 15/8 favourite. That was at a 2m 6f distance. He has put in some very good work this season, particularly in recent form, but this is some tough company to live among.

Rest of the runners

Alright Jack finished sixth on his last run, a Doncaster 3m effort back in December. He was well beaten in that hurdle contest and despite being the highest-rated horse in this field, hasn’t been electric with his form for a while.

Mercian Prince is the outsider here with nothing in the form of the nine-year-old to suggest that he can get the better of this company. The experience is there for having won seven chases in his career from 2m 3f to 2m 5f. He was 10th of 12 on his last hurdles effort, which was in February.

Predictions & Tips

It is Ostuni who just gets the nod from us in this one over Lord Rococo. Ostuni’s win at Fontwell was solid and he looked fresh with plenty to spare at the end.

He has plenty of room to spare and staying partnered with Bryony Frost, it just gives him the full appeal.

Lord Rococo has been wonderfully consistent and should be in contention. But he will be trying to take on the challenge of a 6lb rise in weights.
