Spain U21 News and Form

Spain, who were the runners up at the 2017 U21 Championships, got things off to a bad start in this campaign. They suffered a 3-1 loss against hosts Italy, despite having taken the lead in the game through Dani Ceballos. So now the pressure is mounting on them to try and make it through to the knockout stage. They need to come up with a win in this one. This is their first meeting in 14 years with Belgium. They have only met competitively four times before and Spain are winless from those meetings at D3 L1. The last time that they beat them in a game was back in a 1997 friendly match up. This is Spain’s fifth appearance in the U21 Euros in the last six editions. They have won two of the last four titles.

Spain had a strong qualification campaign as expected, with them winning nine of their ten games. The Spaniards averaged over three goals per game as well from that. Their loss against Germany in the final two years ago saw them have a ten-match undefeated streak of form in the competition snapped. So that’s back to back defeats for them after their misfire against Italy. That defeat against Italy saw their eight-match winning streak in group stage games come to an end as well. That was their first defeat since losing to England in 2009.

Key-Facts – Spain U21 v Belgium U21

  • Spain have lost back to back Euro U21 matches
  • Belgium are undefeated in four competitive games against Spain
  • Both conceded three goals in their opening defeats

Belgium U21 News and Form

The Belgians suffered a 3-2 loss against Poland in their opening group stage game. That is just the third time that they have made an appearance in the Euro U21 Finals, this being their first since 2007. They did manage to get to the semifinals in that 2007 campaign when they were eliminated by Serbia. Following their loss against Poland, it leaves the Belgians with a W2 D2 L4 record in the competition. They had a great qualification campaign to get back to the Finals, remaining undefeated with a win in eight of their ten played. Belgium powered their way to a seven-match winning streak to finish with as well. They did not concede in any of their last four. Do they have enough to push for a victory?

Spain U21 v Belgium U21 Predictions

Spain to win: The Spaniards have such a good squad, but the Belgians are clearly not to be underestimated following their qualification campaign. Still, it is Spain who should come out on top in this one but as they both have to go for the win, both teams to score as well looks a decent proposition.
