St Johnstone v Rangers Odds and Predictions – Scottish Premiership Betting September 22

Rangers likely to keep things tight again

Scottish Premiership Betting at Unibet
Rangers will be hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself as they head to McDiarmid Park. The last time they recorded an impressive win in the Europa League on a Thursday, they lost on the following Sunday.

St Johnstone Form and Team News

Saints are still awaiting a first victory of the season in the Premiership but at least moved off the bottom of the table after a hard-fought point at Aberdeen last week. They’ve now drawn three of four matches in the league since a 7-0 drubbing at Celtic last month but are generally finding goals hard to come by, despite the return of prodigal son Stevie May.
It looks like it’s going to be a season of struggle for Tommy Wright’s men but a visit to Perthshire from one of the Old Firm is always a big occasion. Unfortunately, on-loan midfielder Jason Holt won’t be allowed to play against his parent club with David Wotherspoon and Drey Wright likely to be competing for the vacant slot. Scott Tanser has made an impressive start to his time at St Johnstone and the defender is already attracting the attention of some of the bigger clubs north of the border so he’ll be keen to show his qualities against some of Rangers’ big-name forwards. Full-back Callum Booth has signed a short-team deal after Bury were thrown out of the EFL.

Rangers Form and Team News

The Gers are already playing catch-up with Celtic after their defeat in the first Old Firm derby of the season but they’ve bounced back with victories against Livingston and, on Thursday, Feyenoord.
The Glasgow giants have won four of their five Premiership matches this season and sit second in the early table. That Celtic defeat was the only occasion in nine matches that they’ve conceded more than one goal. Steven Gerrard boasts an impressive win rate in his 75 matches in charge at Ibrox but knows his team may need to take a further step forward to reward their fans with some silverware.
Rangers are likely to be without Ryan Kent and Jamie Jones at McDiarmid Park but Jamie Murphy is ahead of schedule and could be on the bench. Jermain Defoe, Joe Aribo and Andy King didn’t start against Feyenoord so are in prime position to come in should Gerrard decide to make changes but it’s difficult to see Scott Arfield and Glenn Kamara missing out.

St Johnstone v Rangers Head-to-Heads

In their last 10 meetings with Rangers, St Johnstone have won just once but six players remains in the Saints’ squad from that victory at Ibrox the season before last. St Johnstone have not won any match against the Gers at McDiarmid Park since 2010 and have conceded 11 times in the last four meetings between the sides.

St Johnstone v Rangers Current Best Odds

St Johnstone 9/1, Draw 9/2, Rangers 7/20 (Odds correct at 3.45pm September 22)

St Johnstone v Rangers Predictions

St Johnstone appeared to have tightened up in recent games and Rangers are not exactly putting teams to the sword. After four home matches in a row, you could understand a little caution back on the road – they’ve not conceded a goal in their last three away games. The visitors are 13/2 with Betvictor to win 1-0 in the Correct Score betting and must be worth a second look in the to Win To Nil market.
