The odds on Newcastle boss Steve Bruce being the next Premier League manager to go was cut into 7/2 with Betfair this week* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on Thursday, 14th January 2021 at Betfair),.

That was a bit of an obvious market reaction after Newcastle suffered a league defeat at Sheffield United on the weekend.

In that result, the Magpies became the first Premier League side to lose to the Blades in this campaign.

Bruce under fire after league defeat.

Not only did Newcastle become the first side to get beaten by Sheffield United in this season’s Premier League, but it also extended their poor form.

The last league win that Newcastle claimed was 2-1 success over West Brom on December 12th, 2020.

Since then the Magpies have posted a D2 L4 record and the goals have totally dried up from them.

Steve Bruce’s men have scored just the one goal in their last four league games.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
12/1

What’s next for Newcastle in the EPL?

If they haven’t picked up any wins by the end of January in the league then the Magpies are going to be in bigger trouble.

That’s because February doesn’t offer much relief.

The remaining games that Newcastle have in January are away at Arsenal and Everton, both very tough fixtures and a home game against Leeds.

Then in February, three of their first four games are against teams who are currently in the top seven (Southampton, Chelsea and Manchester United).

They have to find a way to stop their form from going backwards.

Chris Wilder still the front runner for the sack

Even though he just guided his Sheffield United side to their first league win of the season, which was against Bruce, of course, Chris Wilder is the current 13/8 favourite to be the Next Premier League boss to go* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on Thursday, 14th January 2021 at Betfair).

The Blades are rock bottom of the Premier League still with five points on the board only and they are now nine points away from safety.

That’s a lot of ground to make up now and relegation looks a bit of certainty for them.

There is reason to think that it would be Wilder to go next because the Blades have a really tough run of games coming up.

They face Spurs, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in four of their next five league wins.

Given what has transpired for them already this season, picking up wins in any of those doesn’t appear to be too likely for United.

Lampard still not out of the woods

The other Premier League boss who seems to be under the biggest pressure at the moment is Frank Lampard

Chelsea have lost four of their last six league games (W1 D1) and the Blues appear to be really stalling with lacklustre performances.

Four of their next six league fixtures are away from home, which probably won’t help them out too much much.

Lampard is currently at a 3/1 quote to be the Next Premier League Manager To Go* (odds recorded at 21:30 GMT on Thursday, 14th January 2021 at Betfair).
