Stoke City News and Form

Stoke City, who were relegated from the Premier League last term, have had a very poor season in the second tier. There was plenty of hope and expectation before a ball was kicked last summer, but the Potters have spent practically all season in the bottom regions of the table. City languish in 16th place with one fixture left to play, picking up just 54 points from 45 games.

Stoke have won only one of their past ten Championship matches, although just two have those have been defeats. No side in England’s second tier have drawn more games than the Potters, as 21 of their 45 fixtures have ended in stalemates. Meanwhile, Stoke have drawn ten of their last 14 Championship encounters.

After drawing 2-2 with Norwich City on Easter Monday, Jones’s troops claimed a 0-0 draw against Millwall at The Den last time out. Meanwhile, the Staffordshire side have not won at home since beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 over two months ago. The Stoke supporters will be glad to see the back of what has been another poor season at the bet365 Stadium.

Sheffield United News and Form

After a hard-fought 2-0 win over Ipswich Town coupled with Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, Sheffield United secured promotion back to the Premier League last weekend. The Blades have been sharp all year, despite kicking off their league campaign with back-to-back defeats to Swansea City (2-1) and Middlesbrough (3-0).

It was a nervy afternoon at Bramall Lane last Saturday, but Scott Hogan’s first-half goal eased the pressure against bottom club Ipswich. Jack O’Connell added a second with 20 minutes to go to put the game beyond the Tractor Boys. That was United’s third win on the bounce having seen off Nottingham Forest (2-0) and Hull City (3-0) over the Easter period. Since losing 3-2 at home to Bristol City in late March, the Sheffield club have gone six games undefeated, winning four and drawing two.

Promotion was number one priority for Sheffield Utd, but Wilder and his side would love to pick up the Championship trophy on Sunday. Three points at the bet365 Stadium and a Norwich loss at Aston Villa will do the business for the Blades.

Stoke City v Sheffield United Predictions

Sheffield United win: I fancy Sheffield Utd to take the points in the Potteries – whether that will be enough for the title remains to be seen. Stoke are better at home than they are away, but the Potters have won just one of their previous eight matches at the bet365, drawing five and losing two of the other seven. The Blades will be riding on the crest of a wave after the highs of last weekend, and Wilder’s side should be too strong for City in this one. Back the visitors to keep a clean sheet in a comfortable win.
