Stoke v Bournemouth Betting Preview – Premier League 21st October 3.00pm

The Potters conceded those seven goals against Manchester City last weekend and they will want to quickly forget about that. Getting a win on the board this weekend back on home soil would go a long way to do just that. The Potters haven’t done badly at home this season and should fancy their chances against the struggling Cherries. Bournemouth are still rooted in the relegation zone after a hugely disappointing campaign from them and the league’s lowest-scorers may not have the firepower to trouble the Potters.

Stoke v Bournemouth Betting Tips

There have been some rough results for Stoke recently and they are a bit out of form with only a W1 L3 record picked up in their last three games. They suffered a big 4-0 loss at home against Chelsea and then a 7-2 defeat against Man City in that sequence of losses. Stoke are stuck on just the two league wins this season but all of their form pretty much has been at home. All but one of the eight points that they have collated for the season have been at home, so that is a positive going into this one for them. Because of their horrendous goal difference now after getting torn apart by City, Stoke are right above the drop zone. A win would leave sitting much more comfortably on the weekend. This is another chance to show some character after a heavy defeat.

Last Six Head to Head (all competition)

Bournemouth 2 – 2 Stoke
Stoke 0 – 1 Bournemouth
Bournemouth 1 – 3 Stoke
Stoke 2 – 1 Bournemouth
Stoke 3 – 0 Bournemouth
Bournemouth 3 – 1 Stoke 1

Overall this season Stoke’s home form reads W2 D1 L1 so it’s not terrible and they took a 2-1 win over Southampton in their last home game. That was in response to that big defeat against Chelsea, so there’s a bit of character there. Under 2.5 goals at BetVictor fetches a price of 4/5 which is decent value. In the anytime goalscorer market joint top scorer for the Potters this season, Peter Crouch is a 7/4 option with Saido Berahino at 7/4. From the four previous Premier League clashes between the two sides, Stoke hold an advantage of W2 D1 L1. Bournemouth actually won at the Bet365 Stadium last season before holding out to a 2-2 home draw against the Potters. There has only been the one clean sheet for Stoke this season and both teams to score in this one is a price of 3/4 but because the Cherries offer little offensive threat there is better of even money of both teams NOT to score at BetVictor.

Bournemouth are really struggling this season. They may well have collected four points from their last four games, but that’s all they have tallied for the entire season. Only Crystal Palace currently have picked up fewer points. The Cherries have lost all four of their games this season out on the road and they are struggling. To their credit somewhat is that they have only been beaten by a one goal margin in four of their six defeats and that includes games against Man City, Everton and Tottenham. But their lack of output going forward has to be solved pretty quickly or else they are in for bigger troubles ahead. The Cherries have failed to score in five of their eight league games now, totalling only four goals for the season. Josh King is a 9/4 anytime goalscorer option for them, their shortest priced option.

In the BetVictor correct score market, a Stoke 1-0 result is, therefore, going to have some kind of appeal, while a 2-0 option for the home side is at 10/1. Will Bournemouth even raise a threat in this one? The Cherries have actually hit the back of the net in each of their four previous Premier League games against Stoke, but they aren’t a threat at the moment. Defensively there are worse teams in the top flight than Bournemouth are, certainly, but that doesn’t count for a lot if you can score yourself. Because of their defensive strengths, it could be worth backing them early on through a draw/Stoke half time/full time bet which is a price of 9/2. There are no easy games happening for Bournemouth at the moment who are lacking a bit of self belief and confidence.

Stoke v Bournemouth Predictions

Stoke to win: Stoke can forget about last weekend’s anomaly and get a win on the board in this one. The low-scoring Bournemouth are likely going to struggle out on the road again to make an impact and last weekend’s hammering at the Etihad can quickly be forgotten by the Potters.
