Swansea City v Derby County Betting Tips – Championship, 1st May 7.45pm

Derby County have taken charge of sixth place in the Championship, and victory in South Wales on Wednesday will all but guarantee their spot in the play-offs. However, Swansea City have been very strong at the Liberty Stadium in 2019, and Graham Potter’s side will want to end their home campaign with a win in front of their home supporters in midweek. Who will come out on top in Wales?

Swansea City News and Form

Swansea City have had a mediocre Championship campaign following relegation from the Premier League last year. Despite ending their season with a flurry of wins, the Welsh side have spent most of their time in and around mid-table. The Swans currently sit in 11th place, seven points adrift of the sixth-placed Rams.

Things are just starting to come together for Potter at the Liberty, as Swansea have won five of their last seven in the Championship. They also had a decent run in the FA Cup, eventually losing out to Premier League champions Manchester City in the quarter-final. However, their slim promotion hopes came to an end last weekend, as the Swans were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City at the Liberty.

Swansea have been excellent on their own patch in recent months, picking up an impressive 19 points from the last 21 on offer. Prior to last weekend’s stalemate with Hull, the club from South Wales had won six league games in a row at home. Overall, Swansea have a W12 D5 L5 record on home turf in this season’s Championship, scoring an impressive 41 goals along the way.

Derby County News and Form

Three wins and a draw from their last four has given Derby County a great chance to claim a play-off place. There’s only one spot up for grabs as Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa are already assured of a top-six finish. However, three points for Frank Lampard’s men on Wednesday will all but guarantee their spot.

Last weekend’s 2-1 victory against Bristol City at Ashton Gate was a massive result for the Rams. Goals from Tom Lawrence and Jayden Bogle were enough to give Derby their first Championship away win of 2019. The Midlands club are level on points with Middlesbrough, but the Rams have a much better goal difference.

Derby have been very solid at Pride Park this term, losing just three times and accumulating 43 points. Only the current top three have picked up more home points so far. However, Lampard’s troops have had their troubles on the road, losing nine of their 22 away fixtures.

With a play-off spot within touching distance, this is a huge match for Derby. Lampard and his team can start preparing for the end-of-season lottery if they can pick up all three points in midweek.

Swansea City v Derby County Predictions

Derby County win: Derby have two chances to pick up the three points that they need, but the Rams will want to get the job done as soon as possible. I’m expecting County to be on the front foot from the first whistle at the Liberty Stadium. This could be a close one and Swansea will fancy their chances of scoring, but Derby should edge it in South Wales. Back Derby to win by a one-goal margin on Wednesday.
