Swansea City News and Form – Swans to make home advantage count?

Steve Cooper started life at the Liberty Stadium in fine fettle, as Swansea City won seven and drew one of their opening eight in all competitions. Since then, however, the Swans have picked up just one victory, going from first place down to ninth as a result.

Swansea warmed up for this derby in the worst possible way, as they were easily beaten at home by Brentford in midweek. The Bees were superb at the Liberty, with strikes from Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo and a Jake Bidwell own goal giving Thomas Frank’s men a deserved 3-0 win.

Swansea started the season with five successive league and cup home wins, but the club have taken just one point from their last four at the Liberty. Can Cooper’s boys put things right against their bitter rivals on Sunday?

Swansea City vs Cardiff City Head to Head

Back in February 2014, Swansea beat Cardiff 3-0 at the Liberty in a Premier League fixture

In the last Championship meeting, a late Craig Bellamy goal gave the Bluebirds a 1-0 away victory

Both teams have won three of the last six meetings

Neither Swansea nor Cardiff have ever done a league double over the other

Key-Facts – Swansea City vs Cardiff City

  • Swansea are without a win in four at home (one draw, three defeats)
  • Cardiff have yet to win on their travels this term
  • The Bluebirds have lost only one of their past ten in the Championship

Cardiff City News and Form – Can the Bluebirds seal first away win?

Cardiff City were in front twice at The Den in midweek, but the Bluebirds were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw at Millwall. So far this season, Neil Warnock’s men have drawn four and lost three of seven away league games. Their last win on the road came at Old Trafford in the Premier League back in May.

Cardiff sit in 13th place at the moment on 18 points. The Bluebirds have not quite got going yet following relegation from the top flight, winning just four of 13 Championship affairs. However, they have only been beaten three times, losing one of their previous ten in the league.

Victory at the home of their rivals will be their first away win of the season in any competition. It would also put them just a point behind Swansea in the Championship table.

Swansea City vs Cardiff City Predictions

Draw: The South Wales derby is one of the biggest rivalries in British football. Both sets of fans are desperate to see their side win this one, and it’s often a spicy affair. The Swans wiped the floor with the Bluebirds when they last went head-to-head, so Cardiff will be out for revenge. However, we can see the rivals cancelling each other out at the Liberty. Back the draw at 9/4.

Despite finding himself down the pecking order in attack earlier on in the season, Danny Ward has been in excellent goalscoring form for Cardiff when given the chance. Ward has netted four goals in six appearances for the Bluebirds. The 27-year-old is available at 12/5 to score anytime on Sunday.
