Swiss to beat under-strength Iceland

European Football

Switzerland v Iceland Betting Tips – UEFA Nations League, 8th September 5.00pm

After 2018 World Cup campaigns for both, these two will meet in the opening action of Group 2 in League A of the UEFA Nations League. That group also contains Belgium. Switzerland are going to be keen to get everything out of this home fixture as possible, but you have here two pretty stable, reliable and consistent sides. It should be a close battle. Read our predictions for Switzerland v Iceland.

Switzerland News and Form

The Swiss go with home advantage in this opening Nations League encounter so the initiative will be on them to come out with a strong start. The Swiss had a fairly easy World Cup 2018 qualification group and they made light work of it really. At the tournament itself in the summer, they made it out of their group, helped by a draw against Brazil but then were eliminated in the round of sixteen by Sweden. Still, the Swiss are W8 D4 L2 in their last fourteen matches, which isn’t a bad return at all. They have also found the back of the net in seven for their last eight games played.

Defensively they haven’t been watertight by any stretch of the imagination, however for our Switzerland v Iceland predictions, they are worth backing to win to nil at 6/4 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from September 5th, 2018 at 5:19 p.m.). That will simply be because Switzerland are on home soil against an Iceland side which has been robbed of a few key players. Switzerland are a bit thin on the ground in terms of attacking options themselves and even though he didn’t have a great World Cup Haris Seferovic is probably going to be their frontman. There’s no way we see a lot of goals cropping up in this one and therefore it is worth expecting this one go under 1.5 goals.

Iceland News and Form

Iceland have some key players missing for their trip to Switzerland. In the midfield, both captain Aron Gunnarsson and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are out injured. They will also be without their main striker Alfred Finnbogason who is also sidelined for this. Iceland also are going into a new era following a change of head coach with Erik Hamren taking over. So they are not going to be quiet at full strength for this one which could limit them in this Nations League opener. Both teams not to score is at 4/7 odds* (Betting Odds were taken from September 5th, 2018 at 5:19 p.m.) and definitely is one of our top Switzerland v Iceland predictions.

It has been a tremendous couple of years for Iceland. They had that brilliant run at Euro 2016 in getting to the quarter finals and then they turned around and qualified for the World Cup for the first time ever. But this is a tricky time for them with injuries and change of head coach. Their form isn’t there either really because Iceland have won just one of their last ten games played now (D3 L6) so they are going to have to dig deep. To their credit, they have only failed to score in one of their last six games, but the timing just feels off for them here and they could struggle on the road.

Switzerland v Iceland Head to Head

The two previous meetings between Switzerland and Iceland were during World Cup 2014 qualification and Switzerland produced four points from the two games. They took a win on the road and then were held in a thrilling 4-4 draw back on home soil. That was after having lead 4-1 at one point in the second half.

Switzerland v Iceland Predictions

Switzerland to win: We are going to stick with the Swiss on home soil to come up with maximum points. They carry more of an attacking threat than Iceland do and we are going to push for Switzerland to win to nil as well. Iceland haven’t been producing that well in front of goal lately.
