Switzerland News and Form – Can the Swiss hit back with a much-needed three points?

Switzerland’s automatic qualification hopes were dealt a huge blow after they were beaten by Denmark on Saturday. Yussuf Poulson’s goal six minutes from time in Copenhagen gave the Danes a 1-0 win.

Switzerland have not quite been at it during qualifying up until now. The Swiss have played a game less than Ireland and Denmark, but they find themselves four points behind the joint leaders. Petkovic’s boys have won two, drawn two and lost one of their five Group D matches.

After last weekend’s gut-wrenching defeat in the Parken Stadium, only three points will do for Switzerland in this one. The hosts are priced at 11/20 to secure a priceless victory on home soil this Tuesday.

Republic of Ireland News and Form – Can the Irish book their place in the finals?

Republic of Ireland have been excellent in this qualifying campaign thus far. The Irish are undefeated in six in Group D, winning three and drawing three. In the process, McCarthy’s side have only scored six but have shipped just two.

Ireland would have loved maximum points in Tbilisi last weekend, but the goalless draw was not a bad result in the end. It was a tight game against Vladimir Weiss’ well-drilled Georgia side, so the draw was just about the right result.

The Republic are unbeaten since McCarthy returned as boss. In fact, Ireland have not lost in any competition since losing 1-0 to Ryan Giggs’ Wales in a UEFA Nations League matchup at the Aviva Stadium a year ago.

After travelling to Geneva on Tuesday, the Boys in Green end their qualifying campaign with a home game against Denmark next month. Will they have booked their place at Euro 2020 before then?

Switzerland v Republic of Ireland Predictions

Draw: When Ireland and Switzerland clashed at the Aviva Stadium last month, it was a very even affair. Fabian Schar’s 74th-minute goal was cancelled out by McGoldrick’s effort five minutes from the end. This has the potential to be another close encounter between the pair in Geneva, so our money is going on the draw at 16/5.

Ireland’s defence has been exceptional during qualifying, as they have shipped just two goals in six matches so far. At the time of writing, only Ukraine and Germany have conceded fewer. Ireland have kept four clean sheets, and we can see them keeping the Swiss at bay in this one. You can get the 0-0 draw at 7/1.
