Well, the whole event started back in 1960 which means that so far there have been fourteen previous runnings of the European Championship. See, we made things easy for you there! Things have changed quite a bit of course since its inception when there were only four teams taking part. It stay that way through the first six editions of the European Championship before it was stepped up to eight participants in 1984.
1996, when England hosted the tournament, was another landmark for the tournament as it was stepped up to sixteen teams for the first time ever. Now for the fist time ever it has gone a step further to embrace more finalists, with 24 teams entering the fray at France 2016.

OK, so maybe you can remember the nations who have been crowned the kings of Europe down the line of history, but can you also remember who has finished runner up? There perhaps things start to get a little tricker. There are two ways to have a go at our quiz, you can go the easy route or the hard route
The Easy European Championship Quiz
For this version of our quiz, you don’t have to remember when a nation may have finished first or second at an edition of the European Championships, just that they did. Type the name of country in the box at the top of the quiz and if you are right, if they have finished in the top four of a European Championship before, the name will be automatically filled into all of the slots where that particular nation either won or finish runners up in a particular year.
The Hard European Championship Quiz
This is one which will really put your memory to the test. In the more difficult version of our European Championship quiz, you have to fill in the correct nation for the finishing positions from that particular year. So for example you would need to separately fill in the 2012 Winner and the 2012 Runner up. Just do that for each of the fourteen previous editions of the tournament.
Did we forget to mention that this is time? Well, for each version you get three minutes on the clock to try and remember all of the names of the nations.
